BC has nothing to do with the PS3 not "being out yet"

I still don't see the facination with BC. The SNES wasn't BC. The Gamecube wasn't BC. Lastly I for the most part couldn't stand to play old games on new system after I got used to the new visuals and gameplay.
I just don't get it.

So you think that sony waited for microsoft to release a list on backwards compatible games? Lmao. I don't understand why people can't just keep their xboxes to play whatever xbox games they want, that's what I'm doing. I could understand trading the xbox in if you got a lot of money for it but at most you can get around $60 and you would have to trade in some games to get that much for it.

BWC only matters for a few months anyway. After that, you'll just end up putting away the original xbox games and buying 360 games.

If Madden 06 was BWC, I'd still get M360. Same with the Basketball and Hockey game(s).

Yep, for me, it only matters until NCAA Football 2007 comes out.

The only games I'm completely bummed about are MVP, NCAA and Far Cry Instincts. I thought for sure that Microsoft would "take care" of EA and Ubisoft for sure.

Re: Backwards compatibility news today

Let's see how MS came through on its promise of backward compatibility from E3 in May:

>>>>>

"Xbox.com: At E3, Microsoft said Xbox 360 would run the "top-selling Xbox games." What did you mean by that?

Todd Holmdahl, corporate VP, Xbox group: That's a fair question. We've been working hard to certify as many original Xbox games to work on Xbox 360 as possible. This process is a detailed procedure that we're committed to, but it means that not every game is going to be ready on day one.

Naturally we started with the games that have sold the best and the ones with a large Xbox Live® following.

<<<<<

Here's the list of most popular current Xbox Live games from Oct. 15, 2005, the last time Xbox.com ran this list (site was redesigned and relaunched about two weeks after Oct. 15). I have put the BC titles on this list in bold:

1 Halo 2
2 Madden NFL 2006
3 Far Cry Instincts
4 Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown
5 Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike
6 Counter-Strike
7 Battlefield 2: Modern Combat Demo
8 Forza Motorsport
9 Tom Clancy`s Splinter Cell CT
10 Rainbow Six: Black Arrow
11 Tom Clancy`s Ghost Recon 2
12 Burnout Revenge
13 NBA 2K6
14 ESPN NFL 2K5
15 NCAA Football 2006
16 Rainbow Six 3
17 FIFA 06
18 Project Gotham Racing 2
19 Delta Force: Black Hawk Down
20 X-Men […]

Three out of the top 20 are BC at launch. That's commitment to making the most-popular XBL titles backward compatible?

No, it's not. It's paying lip service to BC and encouraging the sale of more 360 software.

Again, I don't blame MS one bit. It's in the business of making money. But the MS spin of how this BC list is so incredible, so wonderful cracks me up.

Then again, I'm in the PR business, so I probably would do it the same way. But hopefully we can all see through the spin and realize that this list of BC titles will splinter the Xbox Live community into those with a 360 and those without.

I stand by my prediction of the "Great XBL Schism" today more than ever, especially for those Xbox 360 owners who are selling their Xboxes now.

Honestly, I feel bad for a racing game fan who sold their Xbox thinking many good racing titles would be BC. Because if PGR 3 becomes overrun online with pukes who play bumper cars and all you own is a 360, then you better be a BIG fan of Forza if you enjoy racing on XBL. I can't believe Burnout 3, Rallisport 2 or any of the EA NASCAR games aren't on the initial BC list. Maybe soon. I sure hope so!

One other side effect of this list: I predict eBay will become flooded with Xbox titles this weekend and early next week, dropping prices. I think some gamers were holding on to portions of their Xbox libraries, figuring some of the top and recent games would be BC. Now that they aren't, and MS has given no indication when they will be other than "we're working on it," I think a lot of gamers will say "F*ck it" and just give up on their Xbox titles, dumping them on eBay and just focusing on 360 titles.

If you're a seller of Xbox games, I think your profits will drop. If you're a buyer of Xbox games, it's a buyers' market. I think you'll get some pretty nice games at sweet prices because there will be a lot of listings.

Enough. I'm done with this topic. Honest!

Take care,
PK

Yeah they are apparantly, but pretty funny how the first lot of 'top selling' xbox games made backwards compatible includes Barbie Horse Adventures...

i say that those are upset, get over it! In 3-6 months you won't even care.

I am a bit disappointed but the only game i'd like to play is NCAA Football. Doesn't matter though, I sold it yesterday.

Im the same. I never ever ever used it on the PS2 and I wont use it with the 360. For me ,the feature is nothing.

I can see how others could be a little pissed off though, but like SoMiss said..in 6 months will you even care ?

If Madden ends up sucking and you don't have any football games to play, you'll care. Or I know I will at least.

I'm keeping my Xbox anyway, but I don't think MS want's a bunch of tradeins at the same time. If my games were all BC dam straight I'd trade in the Xbox. THey know that.

You guys make me laugh. When I bought the PS2 everybody was so happy it was completely BWC. In the group of about 12 guys I game with, 2 of us kept old games longer than a couple weeks.

Be honest with yourselves, how many of you are going to keep your old, dusty titles and not trade them in for store credit so you can go get new xbox 360 games? Originally I thought I would keep a few. Now, after playing a few xbox 360 demos, there's not even a comparison and I'll be trading them all in. I'd guess 95% of you will be doing the same.

Hey, I could be wrong, and to each his own... but I remember this with the last go around.

A few things you aren't noting though...

1. You didn't play PS1 games as much because there was a bigger leap from PS1 to PS2 then we currently see with Xbox 1 to 360.

2. There is more chance of people wanting to play Xbox games on 360 because they have increased resolution and no jaggies, which is a bigger jump than the simple texture filtering used when playing PS1 games on PS2.

3. There are still top quality recent and future releases on Xbox, which would be a pity to not have the chance to play them. About the only top quality PS1 game even around the time of PS2 was FF9 if I remember correctly.

The only game I am really concerned with is baseball. I would like to see MVP baseball playable on the 360. I know that current sports titles will have 360 specific versions eventually. With regards to baseball, the only option for the 360 will be the one from 2k sports and they have totally ruined that game.

I agree with you for offline play, but there's a big difference this time -- Xbox Live.

Hardly any of the popular new Xbox releases are BC, so you'll kiss those games goodbye for the 360, offline and online. And a lot of those games are damn fun on XBL. So say goodbye to Far Cry if you've sold your Xbox for a 360. Say goodbye to NCAA 2006. Say goodbye to Battlefield 2. Say goodbye to Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike. Say goodbye to Burnout Revenge. And so on.

When Sony jumped from the PSX to the PS2, online play wasn't part of the equation. It's not an apples-to-apples comparison.
