Hardly any of the popular new Xbox releases are BC, so you'll kiss those games goodbye for the 360, offline and online. And a lot of those games are damn fun on XBL. So say goodbye to Far Cry if you've sold your Xbox for a 360. Say goodbye to NCAA 2006. Say goodbye to Battlefield 2. Say goodbye to Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike. Say goodbye to Burnout Revenge. And so on.

When Sony jumped from the PSX to the PS2, online play wasn't part of the equation. It's not an apples-to-apples comparison.

Did I miss something? When or where did they say that none of the games you listed will be BC?

True, but what about upcoming releases like Winning Eleven 9 and MVP NCAA Baseball? There's been no word on whether or not they will be BC, and they won't be next-gen releases until 2007. You can't fault us for being concerned, especially with the initial list. It'd be different if MS guaranteed that the more popular games, and upcoming releases, would be BC.

          Re: Backwards compatibility news today

So far I've traded in all the games I wanted to get rid of. I'm keeping all my GTA's, DOOM, Halo 1,2 , Far Cry, Hunter the Reckoning 1 and 2, MVP Baseball(Until the next version), NFL 2K3 and 4 , all the retro game packs(midway, Inyellivision etc..) , Karaoke Rev , and my 2 daughters have Barbie horse adventure, DDR and the Harry Potter games.
Side note: I also am keeping KOTOR 1 and 2, Clone Wars, SW Battlefront 1 and 2, Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast. Eventually I'm sure I will not be playing the games yet I'll keep the Star Wars games and put them with the rest of my Star Wars games in the attic. I'm also keeping m XBOX so BC isn't a big issue for me.

as far as MVP NCAA, we have to hope that EA puts in the "nugget" in the code that allows it to work on the 360. We all know EA wants their games on every console imaginable.

I don't know if this was posted, but anyway:

Microsoft confirms that its next-gen console will play many games for its current-gen console, including Halo, Ninja Gaiden, KOTOR, Fable, GTA, and more.

Well no one should've traded in their xbox on the hope that certain games would work. No one knew which games would be determined to be a "best seller" so it's pretty much your fault(not you specifically) if you gave away your xbox. And like I said before, it doesn't make much sense to trade the xbox in anyway since you can't get much for it.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Right -- at $60 per game, probably with little more than a graphics' upgrade.

Not what I call a good value.

MS will stretch it out as long as possible, making the most recent releases the last to be backward compatible. It will use some sort of "difficulty in emulation" reason when the real reason is that it wants people to buy a ton of 360 software instead of playing recent Xbox releases as emulations on the 360. By the time recent Xbox releases become BC, people will have big enough 360 libraries to where they won't care if these recent Xbox releases are BC.

You may call it cynical; I call it totally pragmatic.

We must have different definitions of "much." A used Xbox commands $70-85 on eBay, which is close to a fifth of the purchase of an Xbox 360 or more than the cost of one 360 game.

I make decent coin, but I'm also thrifty as hell. $70-85 isn't throwaway cash for me. If it is for you, let me PM you my PayPal account or home address so you can throw some of your trash money my way.

And what about a kid who makes minimum wage or just a bit more who is saving for an Xbox 360? That $70-85 is a lot of bread to him.

Be honest with yourselves, how many of you are going to keep your old, dusty titles and not trade them in for store credit so you can go get new xbox 360 games? Originally I thought I would keep a few. Now, after playing a few xbox 360 demos, there's not even a comparison and I'll be trading them all in. I'd guess 95% of you will be doing the same.

Hey, I could be wrong, and to each his own... but I remember this with the last go around.
I'm with you on this, BWC really doesn't doing anything for me, If I have a new system, thats all I want to play is games for my new systems at that all.

Backwards Compatibility is a Big Deal, A very big deal to most hardcore gamers and collectors alike.
Looks like Microsoft waited before dropping the ball on this one at the last minute so they could sell/trick people into buying their console. I wonder what other things they are hiding till the last minute.
