I have that same TV. It's not quite up to HD standards, but with the component cables, and when played on widescreen, games still look way better than on a standard TV with standard cables...

That PGR3 pick on the SDTV looks just fine to me.

I was thinking the same thing. I will not be getting the 360 this year though. Just don't have the cash. I am enjoying my current XBOX and PS2 games.

Re: 360 + No HDTV = No good?

I have a quick question regarding HDTV's as well. I recently bought a cheap $500 26" Widescreen HDTV capable of 720p out of the box. My question is, since games will all be integrated with the 16:9 aspect ratio, does that mean that it will utilize the full screen on my tv since it is widescreen or will there still be black bars at the top and bottom? Thanks for any answers.

If your TV is widescreen you will not have the black bars on the top and bottom.

Thanks for the quick reply, after checking out a few movies and noticing that they still had the black bars it had me worried for a second. I can't wait till the 360 comes out, now if only I could get Live!

Thats what alot of people think (until they get their TV) lol but simply its not true. 2.40:1, 2:35:1 and 2.66:1 whill all result in black bars on the top and on the bottom. In fact most of your movies will be 2:35:1 and 2.40:1 Anamorphic.

Whoa, I have a Sony Wega too and never realized that I have the component inputs on the back. Will this make it look a little better than if I were to just use the standard video in cable?

You don't need a HDTV to notice higher polygon counts and stuff like larger areas (I hear 1 moutain in Amped 3 is bigger than any other 3 combined in the first 2 games or how much bigger levels in DOA 4 are) or the way faces look better or clothes move or animations and all this other kinda stuff.

My current TV is a normal 27'' and a 26'' LCD HDTV cost 999$ acording to futureshop.ca I don't have a future shop here but figure it was a good measurement for prices in Canada.

I just deleted it, after seeing it wasn't an accurate comparison.

                            Gamespot has something up though.

We compare the various video cables available for the Xbox 360 for price and picture.
