Interest in Revolution as a 2nd console

IGN's 10 reasons why you should skip 360 to get a Revolution

I view 360 and PS3 as pretty similar consoles.

If Nintendo releases Revolution at a lower price (which is expected) than it might become attractive to get as a 2nd console.

I don't like the decision to not support HD but at least they're finally getting out of the stone age and going online. Also Wi-Fi is built in.

If they were smart, they would scrap Zelda: Twighlight Princess for the GC and move it to the Revolution as a launch title. Why release that game for a console near the end of its life cycle?

I know some people say the controller is just a gimmick but I'm actually interested to see how it works with certain games. I know First Party games will support it, but I wonder if 3rd party games will actually take advantage of the controller.

Me too. Those were pretty bad reasons. Not everyone over 12 likes Zelda,Smash Brothers & Metroid, there was at least 3 girls playing PGR 3 today and that controller has a good chance of pushing away 3rd party stuff even more than the GC did.

Re: Interest in Revolution as a 2nd console

The revolution will be my only console most likely.

        - I find the concept of Nintendo franchises online to be very appealing
        - I find the pricing strategy to be within reason.
        - I find that with each generation gaming has become less fun. Something needs to be done to rekindle the fire of the golden days.
        - No HD means almost No loading

My other reasoning is I don't see PS3/360 as either necessary, or upgrades.

        - 360 craps on it's backbone(USA for the slower ones) by removing full hardrive support and rolls out memory cards. Aren't new systems supposed to improve?
        - I find the 360 to be a revival of the DC, except with much less appealing software. It's being rushed to improve MS's bottom line, not gaming.
        - The PS3 feels like overkill. To make games like MGS4 would kill 90% of publishers out there.
        - The PS3 has nothing ready considering it's supposed to out in march. Yeah, I believe that.
        - neither have software that blows what we already have out the water.
        - neither's online plans have shown anything that remotely touches the quality availible on the PC.

        Stuff you guys brought up:

I disagree about delaying zelda, they did a lot of work on it at this point. The last thing I want is to play games were you can see it's "last gen roots", I don't find that accetable. Finally they moved Mario 128 to revo after Myamoto guaranteed it would come out for Gamecube.

Nintendo could tell 3rd parties to kiss their *** and it wouldn't mean anything. They make money. Sony and MS doesn't(360 sold at $71 loss, PS3 will be over $100 with a blueray player), and will be lucky to at all in the next 5 years with how they are trying to outmuscle eachother.

I absolutely love the idea of the Revolution. The controller is gonna be awesome, and you cant beat the first party support. I love the "being able to DL old games" idea too.

That said, I'll probably end up with a 360 at some point and will probably buy this as well. I just hope I can find time and money for em.

Re: Interest in Revolution as a 2nd console

I've really grown to like the idea of the Revolution too. Right now I am more positive on getting one than I am a PS3 or Xbox 360.

I've been gaming since the Atari days and went through every system from Nes, Genesis, Snes, Sega CD, 32x, Saturn, PS, DC etc etc... right now my gaming experiences are feeling very stale.

There's not enough of a visual jump in quality for the 360 to make me want to play all these typical games again.

I am waiting to see what the PS3 can really offer (for example, if it can do that Killzone 2 video realtime, then it beats the 360 pretty easily in my opinion), before choosing a PS3 or 360.

So it's one of them plus the Nintendo.

And remember... it's been said recently that we've yet to see all the surprises the Revolution has to offer. That's exciting too.

There will be regular controller options too, but I bet there will be many well done configs for their new controller in original games.

Revolutions decision not to support HD isn't bad... There aren't alot of HD sets out there. A majority of the US doesn't have them. Plus as of now there aren't alot of HD channels.

Re: Interest in Revolution as a 2nd console

I have never seen any of Nintendo's systems since the SNES as being a player for the serious sports gamer. I see these as kiddy systems for the Mario/Zelda crowd. Why would any sports fan buy a Revolution unless both EA and TT make games for it? I typically only play sports games with football taking up 95% of my time. If Madden or NCAA are made for this system, I could consider it if the price is that much cheaper but other than that, I'll pass thank you.

As a second console, maybe some people would like it but I don't have the cash for one new system right now let alone two.

I bought a gamecube used for the Zelda series alone. I logged more hours on it than I can think of.

I like Ninty but IGN doesn't help them when their articles sound like a cross between a rambling of John Cussak's character in High Fidelity and a 5 year old.

Yeah I'm sick of even hearing about these games. I don't care about mario or zelda and the system really has nothing that interests me at all.

I believe Nintendo accepts the fact they should market themselves as a 2nd console to certain gamers.

Because I mainly play sport games, I would never just buy Revolution as my only console, but as a 2nd console it appears more attractive.

Of course if lots of gamers share my mindset, then Nintendo will once again be stuck with limited 3rd party support. I want to see a video of the controller being used for a real game. We should expect to see demos at E3.
