Re: Interest in Revolution as a 2nd console

I know there have been some people on these boards who said the lack of sports games hurt the Gamecube and I agree. I did find something interesting over at IGN.

"Game control is essential - it's the area where perhaps the most game-play improvement can be made," said John Schappert, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Electronic Arts Canada. "While our portfolio represents a full array of titles across all genres, I think our sports titles might be the first to immediately take advantage of what this novel 'freehand' type of control has to offer."

It sound like EA is looking at ways to use the new Revolution controller with sports games. Should be interesting to see what happens on this front.

Imagine shooting jumpers with it? This is EA here...

Technically they could have the one handed analog for player movement and the remote thingy for dribble moves and even shots.

Has anyone imagined a star wars lightsaber game with it? I can see people losing grip during a slicing action and hurling the remote straight through the tv screen... hehe!

You obviously haven't played them. No Zelda game is connected, apparantly it's a different Link (and characters) in each story.

The story itself has never been great (or that original) but the games are amazing.

The rev is going to be a great system. Its funny how people is killing Mario, Zelda, and Metroid Prime but all I see for next gen is GTA clones and first person shooters.

These are the same consumers that would buy a strip down sport game, gta clones, and the same stale first person shooters.

I think the REV will be the only next gen system I buy also.... I`m sticking with the PC and Revolution next gen...

The majority of the games that will come out on PS3 and 360 will be worthless. Atleast the REV will get plenty of "quality" games.

And not to mention the new REVO controller will replace the gamepad... you can mark my words and put it in your signature if you want to. The REVO CON will replace the gamepad..... and its quite posible it will replace the keyboard and mouse. According to Wikipedia, this is essentially what the REVO CON is--

The Nintendo Revolution controller, unveiled at Tokyo Game Show 2005, has a shape reminiscent of a television remote control and operates like a mouse in three-dimensional real-space. The controller is also a reminiscent of the Nintendo 64, and NES in terms of the buttons.

The controller is a major departure from the last twenty years of console design. Two sensors near the television allow the controller to sense its position in three-dimensional space; other sensors in the controller itself allow it to sense its tilt and yaw. Players can thus mime actions (and receive "rumble pak" style vibration feedback) instead of simply pushing buttons. An early marketing video [10] showed actors miming such actions as fishing, cooking, drumming, conducting an orchestra, shooting a gun, sword fighting, and performing dental surgery.
Anyone that doesn`t want to try this controller is NUTZ..... Its basicly a 3D mouse with 3 axis instead of 2 like a standard mouse has.

it looks cool and all and i like the controller idea but i'm the type of guy who slouches in my bed with a gamepad in my hand not moving too much except my thumbs.

I'll probably get it, i usually get all the systems anyway.

I think many people are starting to turn to Rev. after seeing the cost of the 360, and really the PS3 won't be any different. All these bells and whistles and nothing to show for it but games that aren't even the best-looking availible, if you count PC.

Most people don't even know that nintendo is coming out with a new console, at least that's how it is around here. People always talk about either the xbox 360 or the ps3. As far as the graphics go, we will see much better looking games once developers can spend time on the games and figure out teh hardware. If you look at some of the engine videos then you can see that the games are going to start looking amazing later on.

Yeah but for some people that won't be enough.

If developers nail some A quality games using the new Revolution controller than that is what will take the gaming world be storm. Not hi-res, shiny new graphics.
