Originally posted by Mike8027Well I just called my Game Stop and the guy said they are expecting shipments to come in every week starting next week. But only as the above post above me stated, 2 or 3 at a time.
If nothing else, I think the lesson here for future console releases, anyway, is that if you can't be one of the first 15 to pre-order at your local specialty store, don't even bother.Comment

Originally posted by DmanchildYeah, pretty ridiculous. Just doing the math quickly, I pre-ordered in June...and if my Gamestop even gets 2-3 a week, then I'm looking at 12 weeks before I get mine.

Actually the lesson here is no store can guarantee you anything. Microsoft botched this launch. Should have gone US first then Europe then Japan instead of a world wide launch. Go with the countries first who give the most support and then worry about Japan last as they don't care.Comment

What honestly makes us so special?
Microsoft has the right to launch the system in select countries if it chooses to.

Japan Analysts Cold Shoulder Xbox 360
By Colin Campbell
On the eve of Xbox 360's Japanese launch, leading analysts in the country are all but writing off Microsoft's chances of seriously challenging Sony, or even of launching a successful platform.
Nobuyuki Kawamata of Tokai Tokyo Research Center said, "No one -- consumers or software makers -- has been talking about the Xbox 360 lately, although we only have a couple of days before the release. Given also the fact that basic functions of Xbox 360 are inferior to Sony's next-generation machine, and that there are not many newly-developed titles ready for the Japanese launch, Xbox 360 is not likely to become a must-buy console here in Japan."
Hirotoshi Murakami at Mitsubishi UFJ Securities said, "We had previously thought that Xbox 360 could gain a major share of the Japanese market by taking some market share from front-runner Sony Computer. But we now think that such a prospect may not be realized, given the limited attractiveness of its titles and its lukewarm functions."
Shinko Securities analyst Yuichi Kobayashi said, "Given declining enthusiasm for the Xbox 360 by Japanese players and software makers, it would be almost impossible for Microsoft to overtake Sony or even Nintendo. Even from the global viewpoint, unless Sony fails to bring the next-generation PlayStation 3 consoles to the market on time, Microsoft appears to have almost no chance to be the industry leader."
Now let's send all of our Xbox 360's over to Japan so they can turn around and sell them back to us marked up on Ebay!Comment

Re: 2nd shipment..is around
I understand that Japanese developers do the same here, but the comments, "Why did they have to get them when I'm here in the U.S. without one" is pretty childish.
Microsoft has every right to release worldwide, just as Japanese developers have every right to not even ship a game to us.
Either way, it doesn't matter. It's the company decision. If 360 wasn't released in Japan then you'd have Japanese kids upset that Microsoft didn't run a worldwide launch."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. 1) Japan
2) Europe
3) US
So why did Microsoft decide to change that when those overseas were not expecting to see their systems until 6 months later? Sony is going to release PS3 probably this Spring and then release it here in the US in the Fall. That is to be expected. Microsoft thinks they will gain a foot hold in Japan before Sony releases PS3. Seriously, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out that Sony is going to win the console battle once again. Microsoft doesn't know how to market themselves nor do they have the support that Sony has earned over the last decade!Comment

Re: 2nd shipment..is around
Rules,
Well you can't see it from their side. It's a toss up who's going to win the the Europe and US console war. When the xbox was launched there was no way that MS could match or excel Sony. The PS2 had a strong launch and continued sales that is was too far in front and established.
Fast forward to now. Let's say the Xbox marketshare is 15% in Japan and 30% in Europe. If you launched now and were able to increase the numbers to 30% in Japan and 50% in Europe wouldn't you take them?
Are they losing sales in the US. It looks like the demand for the 360 is still very high. Couple that with the fact that the 360 is turning into the Ipod. Cool to have, cool to look at, and well designed. That's what the Ipod did to gain dominance in the US market. I think MS knows Sony will have to do something incredible to beat what the 360 has set. But by the time that comes around, they would have gained incredible market share.
Other than maybe have too few consoles available and distribution issues, MS is pulling off a coup in the sports world. And it's doing so by beating Sony where it matters at the gamer level. They set-up a great infrastructure so far.
If they are able to get a million units out by the end of december and another 500,000 by the end of January, they would have done a great job in my book.
The problem is patience. I'm enjoying my Xbox and $400 isn't small change to throw down on something that no one really needs.Comment

Re: 2nd shipment..is around
Jrod~ I agree with what you are saying but I think MS is fighting a lost cause in Japan as they continue to speak out against buying it. If MS could build a huge base in the US and Europe right now, they could hold onto the market share longer and putting pressure on Sony to catch up. Sony will surpass Microsoft's Japanese base in one day once the PS3 is released. However, where Microsoft is failing, they are also succeeding in my book.
Failing:
1) Being unable to quickly meet the demand in the US and in Europe will turn many gamers off. Many will opt to get something else this holiday season and this is where Microsoft could have blanketed the market with 360 systems.
Succeeding:
2) Xbox Live~ Sony doesn't stand a chance as Microsoft has been brilliant on this front. Their established base is getting stronger and stronger! With the inclusion of Xbox Live Market, gamers will now have more creativity and options than ever before.
There is a high demand for the Xbox 360 but how long before the hype and frustration set in for consumers who really wanted to get one for a friend, family member, or themselves? My take on this whole launch is the US and Europe are Microsoft's bread and butter. Short supplying those who would have bought it versus going after a small share in Japan is a mistake. Microsoft lost the console war in Japan big time during the Xbox, Gamecube, and PS2 battle. Why devote more money, systems, and time into an area that repeatedly has no interest in their company, games, or system?Last edited by Rules; 12-08-2005, 12:42 AM.Comment
