Re: IGN's EA vs 2K Poll declares a Winner

one question, if 2K was so much better than EA and outsold them once they invented their games. How come they priced their games(2k) at $20?

I'll answer that, to compete with EA

Actually it was to dip into EAs fanbase. Its often said that so many ppl are afraid to try the competition, that the only way 2K would of been able to get customers was to lower the price. It was a risky move because 20 dollar games are usually consider cheap budget titles. Once they stole some of EAs fans, then they would of went back up to 50 to compete with EA. The year 2K games dropped the price down to 20, they sold more copies than they ever sold before. The 20 dollar pricing was'nt to officially compete with EA because 20 dollars going against 50 dollar titles will get you nowhere money wise. If you remember, EA felt the heat cause they lowered their pricing down to 40 that year.

but they are still doing it with the basketball titles and will so with mlb2k. I think that they have built a fanbase at least for the basketball titles, so why not up the price?

Look man, I'm not a marketing expert nor am I familiar with the business side of things. All I can do is formulate my own opinions and make my assumptions. All of their sports games started out at 40 dollars when they came out. I can only assume that the 20 dollar price point killed it for them. Now if they go back up to 50, they'll lose those same customers they just got.

If you really think about it though, last year brought the most name brand budget titles to ever drop in a years time. There were plenty of games that came out at 30-40 dollars. Even some well reconized titles. My guess is because the next-gen is coming up, they gotta lower the price or ppl will ignore them.

Because they are still losing to EA and probably figure they need to run that price point for awhile longer. Although honestly, look at the 360 prices, $59.99 so maybe that is where they figure to get the money back from the "converted" fans. At least that is where they are making the $$$ from me anyways..LOL
