Re: Okay, so does this intercooler work?

Keep in mind that if you clear out your cache following the directions and going into the 360 memory manager, you will have to download any system patches you have applied (like the one for College Hoops and Baseball 2K6).

This is not true of the method where you hold down your A button during a reboot.

Lets put it this way. My system has crashed twice after extended use (3+ hours). Both times my intercooler was off for some reason.

Was it turned off or did it just stop?

I ask this because when I played marathon Oblivion games....my intercooler just stopped, regardless of switch being turned on or off. (I detached it and it was better after letting it sit a few days..sucker was hot)

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but I saw issues with NCAA 07 hanging on me at the pregame intro. I deleted the NCAA 07 demo that I downloaded last week, and haven't had anymore issues. I saw a similar thing with Battlefield 2 Modern Combat, also by EA. I'm not sure if there's a correlation but it's worth a shot to mention.

It was turned off. I have it in an entertainment rack and when I'm rearranging things on there if the box slips back it will flip the power switch.

I just dont think this thing warrants a buy. All of my previous consoles survived their lifecycle and still function if i were to hook them up. Well..except for the dreamcast. We all have some console horror storys i guess, i went through 3 of those things (ironically its still my fav console ever).
Well it's not really the years of playing the system that factor in as much as the consecutive hours, if you're only playing your're 360 for less than an hour at a time then you probably really don't need to have an intercooler. If you're like me and you spend hours upon hours playing online with friends, then the intercooler is a very well warranted purchase. I also owned a Dreamcast and I loved it, I went through 2, the scary thing was that one of them actually died right at 12:00 am on the day the PS2 was to be released.

Re: Okay, so does this intercooler work?

I didnt play my 360 very much and it still blew a gasket after 2 months use. Got mine in April, played around an hour a day, it died in June. I didnt have an intercooler, but then again I hardly ever, if ever played more than an hour. Got my 2nd 360 with an intercooler and right away it gives me "insert 360 game disc" notices around 50% of the time i insert a 360 game. IMO, the 360 is a buggy machine that isnt quite finished yet.

It IS a buggy machine. Mine just died (sent it out today after the box arrived). I take PERFECT care of my consoles (have every one you can name and all run well).

Everything was well ventilated (isolated on a shelf by itself...an open air shelf) and it still went buggy.

The one I get back will hopefully be working...even though I have this feeling I'll be sending it back at some point as well.
The line must be drawn HERE! This far, no further!

It's not a "buggy" machine, it's just one of those things in life that happens. Every single 360 that is manufactured can't be 100% perfect, it's just not possible. The people that have machines that have died (which is still in the low 3% - 5% area), just got the s*** end of the stick, they got the bad luck of the draw. Don't be suprised when the PS3 is exactly the same if not worse, Sony is playing with fire by going with a medium that hasn't proven itself yet, and that will cause issues. I think the 360 is a pretty sturdy machine that has so far proven it's initial worth to me as I patiently await the future games that are in store for the 360.

Hey, I'm no fanboy (far from it) and will own a PS3 as well as a Wii...in ADDITION to my 360. But I know ten people personally who have purchases 360s since launch and 4 of them had to send it back to get repaired (all, thankfully, for free). Add myself to the mix and that makes 5 of 11 who had to send the system back for repair. I realize that maybe I just happen to hang out with people with crappy luck, but really? I don't think so. I knew a guy who's PS2 crapped out on him, but never have I seen problems like I have with the 360. The machine is NOTORIOUS for having issues (up to this point).

The machine is over-blown when it comes to issues, you do realize that out of all the 360s purchased since launch that less than 5% have had ture defects. This is a subject that got too much speculation and not enough research, speaking logically; yes you and your 4 friends have really crappy luck when it comes to the defective/nondefective ratio. I will also buy a Wii, but I will not purchase a PS3; $600 for the high-end system? That's not even adding in taxes yet, that is just plain ridiculous. Back to my original point, the "problematic 360" stigma that is going around is mainly just hot air, yes there have been problems, but no more than any other system has had, it seems everyone wants to believe that Microsoft is putting out a crappy product that does nothing but break and stop running, maybe some kind of Sony brainwashing or something. Yes Microsoft is a trillion dollar company, yes Bill Gates could pretty much buy and sell every person on this planet if he wanted to cause he's a billionaire, these are the reasons that Microsoft is hated so much.

The Intercooler is worth the measley $19.99 you have to pay for it, it does more than pay for itself. (Just thought I add that in there)

The general consensus that I've read about the intercooler is that nobody really knows how well it works(or if it works at all). But for 20 bones, it's worth it imo. So I got one a while ago.

It's pretty easy to tell it works, just feel a 360 that's been played for a while without the Intercooler, then feel one that has been played for a while with the Intercooler. The system without the Intercooler is going to be a little warm to the touch, however the system with the Intercooler feels almost as if (at most times anyway) it's not been played at all. I work at GameStop and I not only own an Intercooler, but I also have heard nothing but good things from the people I have sold them to. So take that for what it's worth, I believe it's a great product, but others may not have the same experience.

                                .

It does what its supposed to, it lowers the temp inside the unit by pulling heat away. In theory this should aid in longevity but it is only one piece in what determines how long a system will last.
