Microsoft "Abandonment" of Xbox is Downright Shameful (IMO)

I know they want ev'one to go out and pick up a 360 and I know they're trying to get ev'one halfaway interested in the next gen to pick up a 360, but this is ridiculous how MS has just abandoned 1st party support for the original Xbox.

And it's led to a trickle-down effect, as many 3rd party developers aren't bothering to create new games for the Xbox either.

A "what's coming" list printed out at Gamestop shows that between now and Feb 2007, more than 4x the games are slated to come out on PS2 than on Xbox. 4 Times!

Also, Sony will continue to support the PS2 after the PS3 has hit the market.

MS has deep pockets - you mean to tell me that they couldn't have afforded to continue to support the Xbox? How about PGR3 and DOA4 on Xbox? You mean to tell me they couldn't make that happen??

Oh well, as an xbox-only owner over the course of the current gen, I really feel suckered by Xbox. This is not an anti-xbox thread, b/c I do enjoy the games when games actually come out for it. But the disparity between available titles for Xbox and PS2 only serves as a precursor to the slap in the face I get when MS just abandons xbox owners like we were nothing.

Don't they know that how they treat us now (especially those of us who only feel a need to have 1 system at a time) will impact whether or not we buy into the 360? This gen is not over yet.

Is it Microsofts fault or the game companies fault ??? Not sure I would put all the blame on MS. But it does suck for xbox owners.......I would bet the same thing will happen to the ps2 when the ps3 is released.

I disagree. The first Playstation had support and good games even after the PS2 came out. I would only guess it will continue with the PS2/PS3. ANything can happen though.

Yeah, the Playstation was supported for a few years. Even up to last year or so Sony was still releasing MLB on the PS1.

Upcoming PS2 games have always greatly outnumbered upcoming Xbox games. If it were the other way around, Microsoft would still be supporting the Xbox.

For the first time, they have the upper hand in a market (next gen). They might as well take advantage of it while it lasts and hope they can establish a strong foothold before the PS3 is released.

I don't care about Microsoft abandoning the current Xbox in favor of 360 (especially with the increased development costs and time requirements), I just wish they would offer more support for the games that exist, i.e. backwards compatibility. They haven't updated since December (and then it was only the Tom Clancy games) and now we have rumors and even an interview with some schmoe in Game Informer saying that a BC update is imminent! Why can't they fix it? I only have a few original Xbox games still, and MGS2:Substance and Battlefront II are the last two that AREN'T supported!

Hell, if they fix the BC I might pick up some of the other Xbox games that I traded in...now that the price is right. I only traded them in for credit towards the new games I "had" to have across my three consoles, not that I necessarily lost interest (Morrowind comes to mind).

To be honest, I probably wouldn't care either if I went out and bought a 360 right now, but I want to wait until all the next gen systems come out, compare them and pick just 1.

Until that time, it'd be nice to have some continued support for the system I have.

If weren't for Sony still planning to support PS2 after PS3 has dropped and if it weren't for their history of supporting PS1 well after PS2 dropped, then I would have no leg to stand on as far as feeling (IMO) that MS could've continued to support the Xbox.

Xbox is not making MS any money, so they want to move away from it. I believe they are still losing money on every Xbox sold, whereas PS2 consoles make money for Sony. If Xbox was profitable, they would continue to support it.

But games seem to be profits correct? They dont' lose with games...if they are good and worth the purchases. Honestly, I'm so ticked off that they didn't support it either cause I am still picking up games and I keep on forgetting that I let someone borrow my XBOX. I definitely hate Sony for a lot of their overtalking and underproducing with the PS2, but, but they seriously show love to their gaming consumers. I mean, they're coming out with God of War 2 and it looks hot. They have some great things on that system. I was going to try and build up my XBOX collection, but why not show Sony love since they're making the effort? I'm sure that XBOX loss a lot of money, but them making games won't put them in a steeper hole. Might even get them more people on board. Them kats definitely need to step up that BC list though. No freaking MechAssault on BC list is just... ......

Dang at this rate the XBox 360s lifecycle will be only 3 more years.

MS 1st party is and has always been weak overall. For every PGR, KOTOR, Ninja Gaiden and Halo there is a Brute Force, Blinx, Bruce Lee and Tao Feng. MS realizes this, and Moore has mentioned that MS is going to be much more selective with their 1st party products. Xbox owners won't be missing that much, IMO.

And 3rd parties are not going to abandon a system with millions of installed users, and cheap dev costs. They'll continue to toss ports of the major titles out there. As it's been said, Sony has always had far more titles...full Japanese dev support will tend to do that.

Understood but the 3rd parties will always be for both platforms. That's what makes the PS2 so much more appealing on the real. I honestly would have loved for them to come out with another Bruce Lee video game with some common sense put to work. Honestly, I would love to play more Jade Empire type games and things of that nature. It's just so depressing that this console is so great and doesn't even get to fully be utilized by the "house". I thought Tao Feng was suppose to be tight though?

I think many games like PDZ, Kameo, PGR3 were slated for the box then converted. MS doesn't have enough manpower to support two systems. They are aligned with a lot of uneffiecient houses like Rare, Bioware and Lionware...these guys can't get games out on time. So you know the 360 is going to hit a summer drought, it would be huge if they kept going with the xbox.

They are taking it too far, by trying to advertise games like the xbox version doesn't exist. It's not like the 360's won't be selling out for months, so they need to calm down with that, that as well as the backwards compatability is the shameful aspect.

Agreed. Hell, Kameo was an N64 game at one time! Then it was a Cube game, then an Xbox game, now it's finally out on the 360. PGR3 was always a 360 game, but PDZ was rumored to be an Xbox game once Rare jumped on board, but was in reality always an Xbox 360 game.

I have seen new commercials for just the regular Xbox, but it's a shame no games are coming out on the platform by 1st party. They could at least dumb them down for the Xbox version.

I mean, saying MS 'abandoned you', how? They came out with 360, unless youre not able to purchase one cuz of money differences, I dont see a problem.
