Re: Nintendo Wii Information, hardware, games discussion

I'm not worried about the graphics. Sure, the "wow, that looks great" factor is a good thing, but really it can't last forever and it rarely lasts longer than the first 2-3 days of playing a game for me. Zelda looks great, but I'm more interested in slashing Link's sword and shooting arrows at things. Its not like Nintendo's graphics have been bad or even so far behind others, I believe what people only see are Nintendo's big cartoon-esque games (ie: Mario) and don't really see games like Resident Evil. Hell, I don't even mind the cartoon looking games so much as they are crisp, but most importantly, its a fun game.

Not that it matters, but isn't the Wii going to support 480p?

    Anyway, my game list:

Launch: Zelda and I have a couple RE games and probably a couple from the VC.

Post-Launch: Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Excite Truck (when the price drops), Red Steel (depends on impressions), Super Smash Bros. and thats all on my mind for now. Sonic is also on my radar. When is that game suppose to come out?

Yes, the games will support 480p + 16:9. That's good enough for me as long as the gameplay is great.

I was at Best Buy getting Guitar Hero 2 today and they were setting up the Wii kiosk. I was told that they should have it done this afternoon. I guess I'm going back there during lunch tomorrow to play some Wii.

Don't forget Trauma Center. My wife hasn't played anything else since she got that game. She gets so angry when she can't complete a hard surgery but she still plays it all the time. Its one of those hard but addicting games.

Gamespot has a great hands on with Wii Sports Boxing

Making use of both the Wiimote and nunchuck controller, Boxing is one of the most intuitive games in the Sports package, if not the entire launch line-up. As you'd expect, you hold both the Wiimote and the nunchuck in the upright position by default, and you're able to use both left and right hooks as well as uppercuts by making those motions. As with real boxing though, half of the sport is keeping yourself protected, so you need to keep the controls in the upright position to stop yourself from getting hurt.

I wasn't even thinking of getting a Wii but seeing how interactive everything is, is really tempting me. Just the sports package coming with the system should be fun but add in Madden and this is getting tempting. It's price tag isn't bad either. Does it need a memory card or how big is its harddrive?

It has 512MB of built in memory, and has a SD card slot in the from that uses run of the mill cards for additional memory. IGN has a really good launch guide that answers most every question you might have.

Apparently, Nintendo is suppose to announce a "surprise" concerning the Wii on launch day. Does anybody have any idea what it could be?

As long as they wait till after release of the system on Sunday so we could get ours Fresh, I'll be happy. We don't need any extra hype to hurt our chances.

Ha, yeah. Its hard to tell what the launch could be though. It'd be cool if they gave us some free Wii Points or possibly include Wii Play with the system. I really have no clue.

Re: Nintendo Wii Information, hardware, games discussion

While browsing EB's future releases for the Wii (primarily to see when Mario, Smash Bros. and Sonic might be released) I came across a couple items I thought I would bring up.

                        Wii Steering Wheel

I'm not sure if its the "official" Wii steering wheel, but its the same one that comes with GT Pro Series and 4x4 Monster Truck by Ubisoft.

                        Wii Stand

I know the Wii comes with a stand, but this one looks pretty cool since it houses the nunchuk controller. Not really necessary, but it'll keep the area neat and organized.

                        And that's pretty much it.

                            More Virtual Console Games Revealed
The ESRB lists eight more classics bound for Wii's download service.

November 7, 2006 - The Entertainment Software Ratings Board's official website has approved, rated and consequently listed eight more titles that will be showing up on a Wii Virtual Console near you in the not-too-distant future. The games are naturally all classics and from very recognizable franchises. In the interest in saving you time, we've listed the titles and their ratings below:

                            Duck Hunt (E for Everyone)
                            Hogan's Alley (E for Everyone)
                            Kid Icarus (E for Everyone)
                            Kirby's Adventure (E for Everyone)
                            Pilot Wings (E for Everyone)
                            Pro Wrestling (E for Everyone)
                            Punch-Out (E for Everyone)
                            Wild Gunman (E for Everyone)
Nintendo itself has not officially announced these games for the Wii's Virtual Console, but the ESRB is a reliable source because the Big N has to submit its games to the Board for approval in advance. In other words, the ESRB got this list from Nintendo of America.

NOA executives continue to state that approximately 30 Virtual Console games will be available between the Wii's launch in November and the end of December. Another 10 titles will be released every month beginning in January.

I wonder how that will effect any future Kingdom Hearts games? Maybe Square Enix can make those games for the Wii rather than the PS3, but I bet they already have a deal with the PS3 since Final Fantasy XIII is slated for a PS3 release.
