The thing that gets me is how much cheaper these games are used over the price of PS2 and XBOX games. I was gonna go rent Metroid Prime, but it's only 4.99 used at Gamestop, so that's cheaper than a rental. Eternal Darkness is cheap as well, so I'll get that one. Heck I saved forty bucks over the price of a used console at Gamestop, so that's more games. Here's my tentative list so far for what I'm picking up

I borrowed Mario Kart and Mario Golf from my niece

    I'm buying

    Eternal Darkness
    Resident Evil
    Rogue Squadron
    Paper Mario
    The Mario game
    Metroid

What else do I need to buy? What memory card do you guys recommend?

Thanks again for all the help in this thread

It's a black one and it has the component on the back. What luck

You want to get a big memory card for sure. I have the 251 block one which holds all my game saves but they make a even bigger one with 1019 block card.

        1019:

Actually that might be the one I have because mine is white as well. The 251 shows up as a black card online.

The Memory Card 251 should do, it's the one I have. The games you listed don't take up more than 8 blocks or so. I finally got around to playing Resident Evil last week. It was great. Now I have to be sure and get Eternal Darkness, I've heard good things about it but never got around to playing it.

Eternal Darkness is easily one of the top 5 games from the current gen, all 3 systems.

I personally liked the Luigi game better than the Mario game. Mario was good and longer, but Luigi's game was more fun to me.

Agreed, it's a must own if you have a GC. I still play it every now and again, the messing with your head stuff was revolutionary.

Re: Getting a Gamecube, what games should I get?

I just opened it the first time and it had a game in the drive. "True Crime". Someone had apparently forgotten to take it out before pawning it. I'd love to find a set of HD cables but can't find em for cheaper than 50 bucks on EBAY and 45 thru Lik-Sang. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah it was different in every way. I remember talking to my friends at Gamestop one day the same year Eternal Darkness was released. We laughed when some kid returned the game because he thought it was defective. He was telling us while playing the game his Game Cube would reset and his TV would lose the volume and it would show mute on the screen.

We laughed and told him it was E.D. messing with him.

My contribution to this excellent game (BUY IT!) is that when I was in my campus apartment playing one night, surround system up, dark room...I start hearing a crunching sound, and couldn't see anything in the game. I hear more, still can't find the sound. Really starting to creep me out now. Damn sanity effects...

I then get up, look outside and I see a deer munching on the tree outside...hence the crunching. My wife (then girlfriend) was rolling over that. Our engineering school (Colorado School of Mines) is set in the foothills of Golden, CO (home of Coors) and the deer on occasion venture down for food. We once had an entire herd outside our apartments!

Anyway, to reiterate, buy it, steal it, rent it, download it...whatever. You MUST play this game! It's a shame it didn't sell well (despite the crowing of reviewers) or else we could be seeing news of a sequel on 360, which is where Silicon Knights is working now.

Ok Here's what I got so far

Wavebird Controller (used) What a great controller. I'm rather spoiled though because I held down the start button hoping it would power the console down

64mb Nyko Memory card-3.99 used. I have no idea if this is a good brand or not.
Super Mario Sunshine-Wow, Mario's come along way since the last time I played.

Metroid Prime-Only got ten or fifteen minutes into it, but I'm loving it so far. I do wish the R thumbstick was like other FPS, that's taken a little getting used to.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron II-haven't opened yet.

I'm planning on going tonight before work and getting Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil 4. They didn't have a new or used copy at the EB or Gamestop where I went to check. I'm really impressed with the system for sure and thanks to everyone who posted great games to get. I traded in Oblivion and College Hoops and got all that with 10 bucks or so left over. I still would love to have a set of HD cables but can't find them for under 60 bucks so far. If anyone has an extra set, I'd be glad to buy them from you. Just PM me and let me know.

He's bringing it by my casa here in a few so I'll check then. Just looking at prices on component cables on EBAY and other places it looks like they'll be twice what I paid for my gamecube, so I'll just Red, Yellow, and White it for a while even if it does have the input.
Go with a pair of S-Video cables. The Cube still looks good with them.

I found a pair of components yesterday for $4.50 at Gamestop for the Cube. I picked them up thinking I would maybe buy a cube, but threw them up on ebay to make about $80-$100.

I bought Eternal Darkness on my way into work tonight but it came with no instruction manual. That just irks me, but it was the only new or used copy I could find in Knoxville. I also was going to buy Resident Evil, but should I start out with the first one for the Cube and then make my way up to 4? I'm a sucker for good game stories and don't want to miss out on anything about it. I absolutely love the Wavebird, it's second only to the 360 controller as far as comfort and ease of use and strength of signal goes. Again major thanks to everyone who posted in this thread as I've now got even more games to play after I finish these up.
