    SNES vs Genesis

Man, do I remember the arguments me and buddy used to have over these two systems. I had a Genesis and he had a SNES and we were suprememly loyal to our respective company. I hated the NBA Live on the SNES compared to the Genesis version and vice versa for him. When every cross-platform games would come out, we would always compare them and make our debates.

Which was your favorite console and tell us your reason.

SNES! I remember having to go through the debate of which system to get becasue I thought Street Fighter 2 was only on SNES and thought Madden 93 was only on Genesis. When I found out that both were on both, I had to go with the SNES because of the better controller (wtf, only 3 buttons).

My buddy had a Sega and when I stayed the night at his house, he'd ask me to bring my SNES because he liked it better.

I remember when I didn't buy the SNES on launch but a buddy of mine did. I went over to his house the day that he bought it and we played Super Mario World and WWF Wrestling. I was like holy crap I am sold and went that week and bought the SNES.

Genesis was better because I had one.

i had both but mario and those games are not really my cup of tea. i like the genesis better because of the sports games. snes was too slow and not as fast and responsive as the sports versions on the genesis.... other genres though, the snes gets the nod.....

Genesis had the large variety of sports games.

Thats what it was about for me. Genesis had Tony Larussa exclusively. Coach K basketball...and a big plus was Mortal Kombat had the blood. I hated the sweat or sand or whatever was flying out of them on the SNES version. The main appeal for MK was the blood and fatalaties. Also the EA games always seemed better on the Genesis IMO.

Dont get me wrong, the SNES used to have some great exclusives. Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Mario but thats pretty much what they're known for. Think I hated about the Genesis was all the added extensions like the 32X, Sega CD, 4 way controller port, etc.

I liked the SNES better mainly because of the Star Wars games. Was Ken Griffey Jr baseball available on the Genesis? I remember playing that like crazy. I think my favorite games on Genesis were a Sonic game, the Bill Walsh football, and World Series baseball.

                      Re: SNES vs Genesis

I preferred the SNES, which was the only one I owned initially (though I played a LOT of Genesis at a family friends'). The funniest part for me, as a mere pre-teen at the time was that in order to get the SNES we had to convince my Mom. We rented a system, and after my Mom expressed "some" interest while playing 'Mario World' I convinced my Dad that she really wanted it! We bought it a week later at the BX (Base Exchange...military families) and I never looked back.

Games like 'Mario World', 'Zelda: Link to the Past', and others I still pull out at times. Not to mention the fond memories I have of when my parents dropped the $70 for cartridges like 'Final Fantasy 3' and 'Chrono Trigger'. Talk about shock at B-days and Christmas! Truly the most fun I've ever had with a game console...even though it was the third I owned (after NES and Atari 2600). Good times!

*EDIT: I totally forgot about Griffey baseball. That was an AMAZING game! With the guys chompin' gum at the plate and the unforgettable wall collisions! I agree about Genesis having the true uncensored MK, and by the time I started annually buying Madden it was in the mid to late '90's when the differences between the consoles were blurred. Too bad it's not that way now...where one console version played much better *

I owned the SNES, my 2 best friends had the Genesis....and damn I was jealous. Personally, being a big sports freak, the SNES was not the one to own. KB Baseball was incredible, that NCAA Basketball game was real cool also, but all of EA's moneymakers were much better on the Genesis (Madden, NHL, and NBA) and major props to Coach K basketball. However, if I was a RPG or platforming nut, I think the SNES owned.

I had the Genesis and I loved it. One of my favorite non sport games to play was Streets of Rage 2, but they all were good and to think they never made another one after the Genesis era.

SNES made a huge mistake with the first Mortal Kombat but when they added blood in for part 2, the SNES version looked way better.
