i owned both...


but SNES was the ISH back when i lived in BK... Street Fighter 2, Castlevania IV, Final Fight, Mario Kart, F Zero Racing, Super Mario World, Live 96, Super Punch Out... etc. It had everything i wanted... plus i liked the controller better.

Genesis had better sports gaming, but SNES had better other games...for me at least

That's pretty much it.

SNES was easily better overall... but the Genesis was no slouch in sports gaming. While they didn't look as good as the SNES versions, they played better.

Anyone else play NCAA Final Four? Man... I LOVED that game... nothing like that "3D" view!

I owned both, but preferred the Genesis. Looking back though, the SNES was easily the better console for its depth and some of the greatest games ever made were for that console. I mostly enjoyed the Genesis at the time for Mortal Kombat, but that game sucks when you go back and play it. And once Mortal Kombat 2 was uncut on the SNES the series became better there. I also mostly preferred the Genesis because I got it after the SNES and for some reason my parents and grandparents assumed that meant it was better and would always buy me Genesis games for birthdays and christmas over SNES ones. I even remember specifically asking for MK2 and Maximum Carnage for SNES and then getting them for Genesis. World Series Baseball kicked *** though, and so did Sonic.

I battled on these grounds too with my friends. I was the only one with a SNES and everyone else had a Genesis.

I always ragged on them because they only had three buttons trying to play Street Fighter 2. I would bring my SNES with all my controllers over their house so they could see a "real" console that could display 32768 colors simultaneously while the Genesis only did 256 colors.

But I would always cave in to play Joe Montana Sports Talk Football, NBA Live, and NHL on the Genesis.

You guys do know that a 6 botton controller was made for the Genesis right? WHile the SNES was much better due to the shoulder bottons, once the Genesis got 6 bottons, it was pretty much the same.

Yeah the 6 button came a while later. And when that controller did come around we all pretty much agreed it was still crap. I mean X-Y-Z and then A-B-C??? LOL

I had a stupid grudge against Nintendo when I was younger (I thought Mario the plumber was the dumbest mascot ever), so it was Sega all the way for me. Some of my favorite games on there were the Sonic games, Coach K College Basketball, Pitfall, Mortal Kombat 3, and NBA Jam. Fun times.

I think the SNES was superior overall, but I defenitely had some good times with the Genesis. I played NBA Jam for years, Sonic 2 was sick, as well as World Series baseball, Quarterback Club, Mortal Kombat, Mega Twins and X-men from the top of my head. But those couldn't compare to stuff like Street Fighter(too cheap to buy the updates on Genesis), Mario World, Starfox, Zombies Ate my Neighbors etc...

i was a sonic fan all the way i have them all, i also loved the x-men games that came out for genesis espcailly the first one that era was golden

I think I figured out the problem with most of you. You were conditioned to be fanboys, even back during the SEGA vs. Nintendo days. So THAT'S where it comes from!

Me? I had an SNES. A buddy of mine had a Genesis. I liked'em both. If I ever got bored with my SNES and the games I had, my buddy and I would trade systems for a week or two. No big deal. No arguments over who had the better system. We just had fun with both.

Dude, I did the exact same thing. Genesis for Sonic and Lakes vs. Celtics, and SNES for Mario, Madden, and other games.

If I remember correctly I bought the Genesis in the fall of '91, before the arrival of the SNES. Once the SNES came out they were considered close enough in quality not to merit another purchase. These factors made the SNES one of the few consoles I never bought.

We busted out the old Sega last week, and the first thing I thought is the controller blows. I forgot how much I hated cords and how small the sega controller is.

Then I couldnt believe how slow NHL 93' & 95' felt. I played those games to death in my youth, and I remembered them as playing much faster.

We are real spoiled with how good games have gotten, and how great of controllers the 360 and PS2 has.
