If you think about it, that is more "next-gen" than anything seen on the PS3 or Xbox 360. Those are graphical powerhouses, but that is all they are. There is nothing next gen about running consistently 30 FPS on the PS3. The dreamcast was a gaming console.
well honestly, the gaming public chose to go down that road when the ps2 came out. There had been graphical powerhouse consoles before, but they were expensive and didn't have much appeal. Even before it launched, the ps2 graphics and hype totally killed the dreamcast momentum. Most consoles since the ps2 have been about graphics and graphics only. Even now, a couple years into next gen, we still don't have next gen AI or physics engines that were promised when we upgraded.

Nintendo is the only one to really branch out and try new things.

I played games on both and thought the dreamcast had superior visuals. Brighter and crisper - I still think so... I could care less about the spec's those can be debated endlessly anywhay (see 360 vs. ps3)

To me the ps2 was cheap and physically small and simple w/ boat loads of games for it = sucess.

Dreamcast was definitely the 'beta machine' in that it was better but no one cared because they all bought ps2 (vhs)

        It came out, check Play-Asia.com

what came out? Propeller Arena and Half Life were never officially released in any region, and can only be had through downloading the iso and burning it to a cdr. If you see it on a website, it's people selling those.

propeller arena was 100% complete, and 9/11 gave them a reason to not release it. The dreamcast was dead and they would only have lost money on it selling poorly anyways. It had little to do with 9/11. The game is fun though.

Half life isn't optimized and you can tell it's a shoddy port. The save file is huge and it loads way to damn often.

                  Don't forget Crazy Taxi!

That game was a load of fun. Of all the console systems that met their demise, I was never more disappointed than when the Dreamcast folded. The Saturn had some great games too (Dragon Force is one of my favorite games of all time) but the Dreamcast was a special system.

I might be nuts, but I think that modern gaming wouldn't be the same without the innovations brought forward by the Dreamcast.

LOL, I remember that something like 1/2 of that soundtrack was Offspring. Man, that game was fun.

Alien Front Online too..... slow loading game, but tough offline (never played it online). Didn't even begin to scratch the campaigns.
