Re: OverG Fighters Discussion
How long do you typically wait before you pull away from the milssle?Originally posted by TCrouchNo real magic way to do it other than following the standard missile evasion advice: if it's a radar lock, then turn directly away from the missile, drop a chaff...wait a second or two, drop another. You want to build a steady stream of chaff between the missile and yourself, and then turn away.
If it's a heat seeker, then you can take a bit more of an angle...cut throttle, drop flares, and let it fall out of the sky for a bit to decrease your heat profile (I throw out the airbrake as well). It's definitely a crapshoot, but I'm evading more missiles than are hitting me at the moment.
I will drop a lot of chaff packs early against the radar guided boomsticks, and as I see the missile closing on me, break hard and drop a couple more. The missile just has to have too many targets to choose from, increasing your odds that it won't choose you. Same with heat seekers, only you can't thrust out and break, naturally.
On the radar it's self.... I tried dodging missles for 2hrs and not once did I get away from any of them. I was and still am a bit miffed.BeyondMediaOnline.comComment

Am also having fun with it. I am currently playing through the scenario missions on beginner with realistic flight model (opposed to the default arcade). Can't wait to try bump it up as I have only died a few times.
Played online a little. It is all about choosing the F-22 or F-18 or F14 (long range missles) and the first to lock on and fire it seems. Not much dogfighting like you would think in a WWII fighter game. Maybe if you could restrict certain planes or missles??Comment

I haven't played online yet, but i've only died a few times using the same settings as you...also thinking about bumping it up, because some of the missions I'm just firing missiles first and that's it...Originally posted by TheTruthAm also having fun with it. Re: OverG Fighters Discussion
Yep..haven't had anything make me really tense up and crap my pants yet. Just lock fire..quickly find next target and fire. I am currently in area 3 almost through it.Originally posted by mgoblueI haven't played online yet, but i've only died a few times using the same settings as you...also thinking about bumping it up, because some of the missions I'm just firing missiles first and that's it...Comment

Re: OverG Fighters Discussion
can someone explain landing to me... i'm able to taxi to the runway and fly off... but landing is somewhat impossible to me... i don't understand the crosshairs @ all... i tried readin the book but that didn't help me neither.http://www.myspace.com/phillthegenesis

Re: OverG Fighters Discussion
The crosshairs represent your "glide path". If the crosshair is off to the right, then you're left of the optimum glide path for descent. You want that crosshair centered on your screen. Slow down to at least 300 knots before you drop the landing gear, and then slowly drop the throttle until you're on a solid descent from 250 knots. Once you're close to the deck, you will cut throttle completely and pull the nose up...dropping the rear wheels first on touchdown, then bringing the nose down after that and applying brake.
It's really a "controlled stall", especially carrier landings. In a real F/A-18 trainer that I got to ride in while I was training for Air Intercept Controller in the Navy while on deployment with the USS Abraham Lincoln in '95, I got to be in the 2nd seat while we had a carrier takeoff and landing. That is some scary sh*t right there. The plane is shaking, you feel like you're about to drop out of the sky. You keep it just above the speed to keep you airborne, but not much more. You want it to have its final glide to be no throttle and just drop with a smooth inclined aspect to the rear wheels on touchdown.
So, to review:
Cut to 300 knots, drop gear.
Cut to 250, line up the crosshairs for your glide path.
Use the throttle to control your descent; not the stick. Keep the nose pitched up slightly and use throttle to bring the aircraft down (you can apply airbrake here as well to increase deceleration).
If you do it properly you should be on a steady throttle deceleration, combined with a proper glide to keep those crosshairs centered.
Once you touchdown (rear wheels will touch first), nose down on the aircraft and apply brake.
You're done!
I haven't botched a landing yet (even caught the 3-wire on the aircraft carrier a few times so far), and I do just that; it's not that tricky, just have to be smooth and controlled. A nice, controlled stall...Comment

Thanks Maverick...
see... its the lining up of the crosshairs that i'm having a little trouble with... no matter where i move, the cross never seems to move... i don't know if i worded that right...
thanks againLast edited by ThaGenecyst; 06-30-2006, 11:30 AM.http://www.myspace.com/phillthegenesis

Re: OverG Fighters Discussion
Then you're not moving far enough around. If the cross is in the bottom right, then move to the bottom right until it either moves up the side (in which case you stop moving down and just shift right until it centers), or if it's in the center but at the bottom, you keep it on its current heading but just lower the altitude. It's kind of simple once you figure it out, but I can see how it's confusing at first. Just wherever the cross is, go that direction. The hardest part is not overcompensating and having it shoot from lower right to upper left because you overshot the glide path.Originally posted by ThaGenecystThanks Maverick...

Re: OverG Fighters Discussion
I screwed up my first landings on each, but after that I got the speed down...I found that keeping the speeds like Terry mentioned is key, and keeping the crosshairs wasn't too bad. The carrier landing was scary as **** though, i thought i was totally going too fast, but i caught a hook and stopped...Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment
