    http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/12116/...ming-Tomorrow/

Famitsu Japan is reporting that the Fall Update for the Xbox 360 will be released tomorrow, October 31 and this is supposed to be a worldwide simultaneous release.

An online translation of the announcement revealed several features previously announced by Microsoft, such as the addition of the XNA Game Studio support as well as 1080p video output and improvements to the Xbox Live Marketplace interface. I just don't understand how we are actually going to get 1080P content. No HDMI makes this impossible right?

not according to this. most TVs will only do 1080P through HDMI. I don't know how mine works, but I think it's only through HDMI too.

I know I am probably in the minority on this subject, but I just don't see what the big deal is about 1080p....I have 2 HD tv's, neither of which support 1080p, and there is no way that I am getting new tv's for this new technology...There was a huge difference between standard tv and HD tv, especially with the widescreen format, not just the picture quality....but I already have that now, and it is just not worth it for me to trade in for what will be a slightly better picture on the couple of channels that might broadcast in 1080p...and in the grand scheme of things there are really not that many channels that are broadcasting in HD right now, let alone 1080p.

This is the same reason that I won't be buying a blue ray or HD-DVD player anytime soon either. I already get widescreen with a very good picture from my current dvd players. I'm sure the picture could be slightly better, but it is just not worth discarding all the DVDs I've picked up over the years to pick one of these formats, especially when one is likely to go the way of the Betamax Tapes before it is all said and done.

All this 1080p update is doing is adding the 1080p feature to the Internal Scaler. That's all. Not sure if this is any big deal. Especially for those 1080p owners because their TV's are already upscaling the signal to 1080p. If your TV's scaler is better than the-1 within the 360, then this 1080p update is MUTE IMO.

It isn't that big of a deal. The difference in 1080i/720p and 1080p is very small. On top of that, most people won't have a TV that supports it until atleast 5 years down the road and by that time we will be discussing the PS4 and Xbox 720.

The only reason it's a "big deal" is because Sony came out and said true HD starts at 1080p, which is funny since several of their launch games that were 1080p had to be dropped down to 720p because the FPS were more stable. That's the only reason why MS added it. They just wanted to take away a bullet point from Sony.

I don't know if I understand right, but the TV only upscales to 1080P if you connect using a HDMI cable. I just looked at my component connections on my TV and they only support 1080i/720p/480p/480i. 1080P is supported through HDMI.

Unless MS or someone else comes out with a HDMI cable, the update is pointless.

This update allows games to natively display 1080p if they are programmed for it. No game is currently programmed for it.

edit *Splinter cell was rumored to be in 1080p but it was debunked.

That's true. There are only 2 TVs on the market that support 1080p through component. A Westinghouse and I believe a Samsung. Like I said, it's just to take away a bullet point from Sony.

I clearly see a difference, on my TV, between 1080i and 720P broadcast quality. 1080i looks a lot better, CBS and Discovery HD broadcasts in 1080i and they look much better than the 720P stations such as ESPN. It may just be the station, but there is a difference.

It really depends on if they are recording it in HD or if they are upscaling it and calling it HD. Discovery and HDnet are a good example of channels that record in HD. Other channels record in standard def and upscale it. I'm sure there's a wiki or something that says what channels do what. I know Mark Cuban made a big point about this when he was pushing HDnet really hard.

edit* and my point that it wasn't a big different was going from 1080i/720p to 1080p. Most people won't be able to see the difference. It's not like going from standard def to HD.

HDNET looks great. ESPN is putrid compared to it. Probably the best station, as far as PQ, is Outdoor Channel 2 HD.
