Microsoft is a company that is worth almost 8x times as much as Sony or paper. Sony is in a terrible business situation being against microsoft.


Goto http://www.nasdaq.com and MSFT and SNE are the symbols. You will get a better idea of how the companies are doing.

Yeah, MS has net income (profit) of 12.5 Billion last year. Sony came in at 1 Billion. MS is in a much better position to absorb losses in its console division.

Exactly why I stated Sales Revenue and that I didn't know exactly how much they made in Profit each year...

MS clearly is the winner in take home cash.



This is why that 1.7 billion dollar loss could make or break Sony as a whole. *sighs*
At least if they had the 500million loss the Microsoft had, at least they'd not be putthing themselves near the verge of "bye bye's playstation"

And Vista isn't even out yet which will give them a major infusion of cash. Right now MS is just living off of aging software technology. Once Vista and the 2007 Suite of software hits the streets MS will have even more play money.

As an owner of almost all consoles going back to the Atari 2600 days, I highly recommend against purchasing a 360 if you are currently on the fence.

I have had more problems with this console and with dealing with Microsoft than with all previous consoles COMBINED. If mine was an isolated experience, you could consider this a sole lunatic on a rant. However, judging by other posters across message boards, the 360 continues to have numerous quality control issues and is not a system where you can safely expect longevity without issues.

My latest problem concerns Microsoft support (I purchased the extended warranty for 2 years). They screwed up my service order (lost is a nicer term) and have delayed the return of my system by at least a week (total duration from initial contact to when I can expect it back is now up to 5 weeks based upon what they told me during my call tonight with a supervisor). They even tried to tell me that I would need to pay for the shipping until I read the service contract to them

My thoughts certainly are clouded by my current anger, but I am giving a thumbs down to the 360 for adult gamers who want to escape hassles with this hobby (and not invite extra ones into their lives).

End of rant.

Sigh.. You have a bad experience so all 360's must be bad.. I had mine since January.. only 6 freezes.. Doesn't over heat. Works great.. Most 360's work flawless...

I for one hope MS, Sony and Nintendo all do well enough this generation to come back for another round. I think MS has given Sony a good kick in the pants, and kept them from resting on their laurels too much (although I guess the verdict is still out). Competition is key.

I currently have a 360 that I'm happy with. The PS3 and 360 are so similar performance wise (and I don't care about Blu-Ray or HD-DVD), that I may or may not get a PS3 down the road. If the PS3 price drops and if I feel the need to have any of the exclusives I may bite, but I'm not excited enough by the PS3 exclusives at the moment to dump $600. I'm actually getting pretty excited about the Wii, and may pick one up when they become readily available. I think Nintendo's decision to go in a different direction was great and I think the Wii will be a great complement the PS3/360.

and if you get a PS3, you can change it to "add 911 to your speed dial" for when your console sets your house on fire

PS - my 360 has been just fine. Froze once during Dead Rising, hasn't froze since, in any game. If you are thinking about getting a 360, do it, you'll be happy with it.

Well, add me to the list of broken down 360's. Mine just died while watching a movie. About 11 months, never had one hickup until -- boom. Gone. Kaput. Adios. Thanks Pared, that number is gonna come in handy!

I thought I was babying my 360 too. Hardly ever plaeyed more than hour, sometimes went a few days without using it at all. I guess if I was a real hardcore gamer, this thing may have burned out on me in 3 months or so. Kinda depressing....

I never had the fear of my system dying either, just happened unfortunately. Not the end of the world though. I'll call MS and see what happens. If they send me a refurbished system, can't say I'll feel at ease, probably sell it on ebay. Sucks, but oh well.
