Maybe we just shouldn't put up with the bullcrap these companies pull, selling expensive but ****ty products.

I for one will never pay a dime for a replacement product such as a 360 if it breaks in an unreasoable period of time (probably around the 1 year mark for the 360). I would kick some serious *** at MS, and I would definitely get a free replacement.
Painting broad strokes and saying we're "completely fine" would be going to an extreme, don't you think?

Please explain how you would handle an out of warranty product that breaks? I'm sure your answer will be groundbreaking.

I have had one xbox and one 360, one gamecube, one DS and I have had 3 PS1's and 4 PS2's, 2 PSP's.

That my friends is a trend.

35-45%? LOL....way to pull that number out of your ***. Actually the number is somewhere around 6% (I read that somewhere and I will try to find it). The average for most consoles is 3-4% so its above the average. Still, this is another case where the internet makes it seem like there is more of a problem than there actually is. ****, if I went by this forum alone. I would think that every 360 breaks, the ps3 will be a huge failure, Madden 2007 is the worst football game ever and Take Two is releasing a football game in 2007.

            So true.

Don't forget that the SEC is the only conference in college football that really matters.

I'd say the early 360 failure rate is at least 10%, maybe higher. Out of the 50 or so guys on my friends list at least 10 have had their 360 crap out, some multiple times. A joystiq.com poll with 600 votes came up with 20%. At least MS acknowledged the problem and extended some warranties, or in some cases reduced or waived repair costs (which was $130).

Say there are...what...3 million 360's out there, which is a reasonable estimate(when you take away shipped ones that haven't been sold, and people with replacements)

                  10% is 30,000.

Take awya the 130 people you "know" who have problems(and I highly doubt everyone who voted on that poll actually had a problem - see polls here where that happened) and that leaves 299870 people that need to have problems with their 360.

I highly doubt there have been that many. 5 or 6% sounds about right.

                    B.S.

Who said all of those people are tellin the truth?

If I had a launch 360, it didnt fail but I'm fearing that it would, I would make a false claim to get a new one just to be on the safe side.

LOL...what happened to the 35-40% figure? Also using a joysiq poll is a horrible way to determine if there is an issue. We tried a poll like that on OS.....and found out that fanboys who didnt own the console were voting just to bump up the percentage. Dont rely on the net if you are looking for a true account of the failure rate.

All they need is a recent NC and BAM, the entire world will see what OS sees.

People who read Joystiq are hardcore gamers who use their systems more than the "average" gamer, so therefore they're more at risk for hardware failure.

Joystiq readers are not an accurate cross-section of the entire Xbox 360 customer base. Not even close.

Well, I'd say most guys who went through the trouble or extra cost of picking up a launch console are hard core gamers. Throw away the joystiq poll. Still 10 bad out of 50 guys I know is 20%. 2, including me are on their 3rd.

I am sure (well I sure hope) that its leveling out now to a more normal percentage. Based upon what I know I would still buy a 360, but I would recommend the extended warranty.
