SONY responds to Microsoft Announcement:

"Sony has issued a statement criticizing its rival Microsoft's TV and movies announcement, arguing that it cuts out Core system users, who will not be able to store the content, thereby splitting the user-base."

Microsoft's TV and movie downloads are available to owners of the higher-priced (and more popular) version of Xbox 360, but not to Core system owners who do not have a hard drive. A spokesperson for Sony offered, "PlayStation 3's content is designed for everyone to enjoy right out of the box, no matter which configuration you purchase. We would never segregate or shut out any of our consumers from our entertainment experience because they didn't buy the top of the line system. Both PlayStation 3 versions available on November 17 include hard drives for downloading content."

LMAO @ SONY.... Most gamers with the CORE System, have it for the purpose of just playing games & nothing else. WTF are they talking about... Instead of responding to competition, why aren't they hyping up the Launch of the PS3.... Sounds like panic is setting in...

Actually, whether you like it or not, Sony is right. You ARE splitting your userbase more and more... some people buy the core system because they "think" it's cheaper. They should just eliminate it (Core system) altogether.

Have none of you ever heard of Movielink? This will be the same thing, as I rent movies from it and stream them from my PC to my 360 all the time. This is how it works:

You "buy" a movie. You download it. After a certain amount of time, you can begin playing the movie even though your download isn't complete. Any online web browser multimedia software does this same thing... it will allow you to begin playing as soon as a certain amount of the file is complete.

As for the time-frame, the movie doesn't get "deleted" of your hard-drive... it just becomes unviewable. You would have to pay again to view it, as the 24 hour period expires from the first second you press play. What it uses is a certificate that measures time from that point on. You will also have 14 days from when you first completely downloaded it to view it. So it's like renting a movie for 2 weeks that you can watch whenever... but only for a day. Then you have to give it back.

Wow... that's a VERY rough explanation... but it should do the job.

Splitting the userbase? Geez, its a choice. You have the low end model (and you know what you're getting already) either buy an HDD and problem solved, or just go to the video store. As simple as 1,2,3

Let's be real here, Sony has no counter and is probably taken back because they have no immediate response. Jumping in talking about some of MS customers as if they aren't screwing all of theirs over.

If you don't think Sony didn't have this multimedia on demand already in the works, then you haven't been following closely. I'm more surprised MS did it.. it's pretty much a given it will eventually happen with Sony.

And Spiderman 3 was going to be their "big app" for it....

As I said, they dont have a response. Im so sick and tired of these folks acting like politicians trashing eachother for bsuiness.

Just give me the best product available at a reasonable price and let me decide. I dont like being forced to buy a feature I dont care for, nor do I care for any company to continue lying about themselves and the competition. Its annoying.

Actually, I had not heard of Movielink, although now that I just looked at their website I may actually start using it....

It's pretty cool. As more and more video stores around here close down (even Blockbuster!) I have looked for other ways to rent movies.

I don't pay regular price at MovieLink however. They typically have a $1.99 sale for any movie once in a while. That's when I'll stock up.

I dont want garb, I want a product really. Im not so stupid that I can't dig out the details. How long has it been that people have been going on and on about specs and the games all look the same anyhow.

It hasnt changed one person's mind about what they're going to buy. I wanted both systems, but a 600 dollar price tag wont do it for me. Neither will the 360 not having the cell chip make me take my 360 back.

Its just a bunch of nonsense. One company can't release a product without the competition trying to trash it in our faces like they're just out to screw us.
