Re: So if there are 3 red falshing lights...
My launch 360 just got the red lights. I sent it in about 3 days ago but I don't really care if it takes a while since I'm gettin Wii/Zelda tonight.Comment

Re: So if there are 3 red falshing lights...
i think its unethical because they clearly had a problem with components (hd's mostly, i think) included in launch systems, and it seems unlikely that they have completely eliminated whatever qc problems existed at launch. to have a product that was bought only 4 months or so ago, go bad, with what is likely a hard drive failure, (a customer service guy told me that they were finding this to be the problem more than not with the rol) and to have to pay $140 to fix, just seems wrong. like i said before, in my first post, other manufacturers give better warranties on items that see much harder use and take more abuse than a video game console does. i'm not saying that they should give a year warranty into perpetuity, just that until they distance themselves from the issues that existed at launch, they should extend the warranty to at least six months for a year from the consoles release.
btw, didn't you say the following: Anything prior to August 18, 2006 would be considered out of warranty by Microsoft which is not right considering the problems these systems have had.?
that's exactly my point if i understand you correctly...its not right considering the problems they've had. i don't think its unreasonable to give an extended warranty until a good record of quality systems has been established over a year or more.Last edited by pistonpete; 11-18-2006, 03:53 PM.Comment

But you can't say it's Hard Drives that are going bad and that are the cause of these problems. There is no proof yet why so many 360's have gone bad. Many have unplugged their HDD and they still have the 3 rings od death. Even when they send in their systems to Microsoft in most cases they are told to hang on to their HDD.i think its unethical because they clearly had a problem with components (hd's mostly, i think) included in launch systems, and it seems unlikely that they have completely eliminated whatever qc problems existed at launch. to have a product that was bought only 4 months or so ago, go bad, with what is likely a hard drive failure, (a customer service guy told me that they were finding this to be the problem more than not with the rol) and to have to pay $140 to fix, just seems wrong. like i said before, in my first post, other manufacturers give better warranties on items that see much harder use and take more abuse than a video game console does. i'm not saying that they should give a year warranty into perpetuity, just that until they distance themselves from the issues that existed at launch, they should extend the warranty to at least six months for a year from the consoles release.
Candyman56 posted two pics of a launch Mainlogic Board and a post Mainlogic board. There was no thermal protection of the launch units which seemed to cause hardware failure in those systems.
As of now there is a very low failure rate of 360 HDD's. I understand your frustration but Microsoft had already extended all launch system warranties to 1 year.
At this point it would be smart for everyone to buy an extended warranty whether it's a 360 or PS3.Comment

i didn't mean hard drives, i meant dvd drives. my bad. but my point is that its very possible that the systems that are going bad post launch could and probably do include components which were used in launch manufactured systems. who knows how much inventory is left over from the beginning? i just think its reasonable and fair to extend the warranty until you can reasonably guarantee that no defective or suspect logic boards, dvd drives, gpus,or whatever are still extant and won't be used in the manufacture of future systems. in my business (general contractor) i stand behind my work for the minimum of a year and because of that most (80%) of my work is from repeat customers and/or referrals. there is something to be said for quality assurance and standing behind what you manufacture/build/sell. if i can do it, why can't ms?Last edited by pistonpete; 11-18-2006, 04:10 PM.Comment

I doubt Microsoft would re-use parts from launch systems because in order to find and investigate where the actual problems are you first need to identify the root cause of the problem(s).i didn't mean hard drives, i meant dvd drives. my bad. but my point is that its very possible that the systems that are going bad post launch could and probably do include components which were used in launch manufactured systems. who knows how much inventory is left over from the beginning? i just think its reasonable and fair to extend the warranty until you can reasonably guarantee that no defective or suspect logic boards, dvd drives, gpus,or whatever are still extant and won't be used in the manufacture of future systems. in my business (general contractor) i stand behind my work for the minimum of a year and because of that most (80%) of my work is from repeat customers and/or referrals. there is something to be said for quality assurance and standing behind what you manufacture/build/sell. if i can do it, why can't ms?
If you begin to use parts from launch systems it will take much longer to find the answer. Listen Piston you're preaching to the choir.
I also run a small business and alot of my business is based on referrals. Honestly I can't fault Microsoft because they did go beyond the call of duty by giving owners of launch systems a full year warranty. Anyone who buys a system should get some sort of protection by way of an extended warranty.
As an example my friend who's a manager at my local EB had his 360 hit the crapper. He calls MS and they told him he would have to pay for the repairs. He explained he babied the system and he was a manager at EB. They insisted he still had to pay.
So they charged him $140 for the repair and they would throw in a 2 year warranty. He was pissed but he got another system. Several weeks later MS announces that the would give ALL launch system owners a full year warranty and if you paid for any out of warranty repairs they would refund the full amount including shipping.
Guess what he called and he got back every dime from MS and he got a 2 year warranty from MS. So there's a point you can't make everyone happy but to Microsoft's credit they have done the right thing for the most part.Comment

Re: So if there are 3 red falshing lights...
Yea it seams MS did the right thing with the launch systems but this guy just bought one in Aug(as did I)and hes Out of luck cause he only gets 90 days? There still seems to be problems and not only with launch systems
MS should own up to those also and not to just the launch systems.Im playing NHL 07 so far no problems.Had Madden and it kept freezing so i traded it (wasnt crazy about it anyway). And know Im afraid to buy Nba2k7 with all the problems that the game has with freezing issues ,and i think im missing a good game. Guess ill just have to cross my fingers and try it out.Comment

Re: So if there are 3 red falshing lights...
My launch 360 was flawless without any freezes or any other problems until I was forced to download the update when I first fired up GOW. The next time I went to start it up I got the 3 red lights and it is dead.
If you do have to send it in it might take a while before you get the coffin. They are currently a week behind in sending the coffins out. I have waited for a week for my coffin and it wasn't until yesterday that they made me aware of this, so on Monday I will be shipping it out while I am at work.Comment

Re: So if there are 3 red falshing lights...
How is it the fault of MS that you didn't buy the warranty? Unless you have lived in a cave, you know of the problems that some have had with the console, there is no excuse to not buy a warranty.NFL: Tennessee Titans
MLB: Cincinnati RedsComment

It took more time for me to receive the coffin than it took for sending it in and receiving back a new one. No. I used to get the flashing lights every time I touched it, but since I put the power brick somewhere spacious where it could breathe, I haven't seen them since. This was back in August.Comment

It took me 3 weeks (and 8 calls) before I finally received a box from them. I sent it back over a week ago and am still awaiting its return.Comment

Re: So if there are 3 red falshing lights...
I am sending mine out tomorrow while I am at work. It should take 1 day to get there (McAllen) from here (Houston). Hopefully there are no other delays. When I get my 360 back I will be purchasing a 2 year extended warranty from MS. I was lucky that this was a launch system that they still covered.Comment
