Right now Im runnin componet and getting 1080i. If I switch to the VGA will I still be able to get that. Its a rear projection type TV not LCD or DLP.
On the 360 Display Settings, you have to go through the different resolution options (I think there's about 8 or 9). I believe one of them is the 1080i equivalent.

                Re: 360 VGA Cables?

Ive got a question. VGA cables are the cables that are commonly used for PC monitors right? Well my plasma T.V. has one VGA input but overall my plasma only suports 1080i I was just wondering because i thought the point of having this VGA cable is to get that true HD quality with 1080p comin out. can someone help me out on this please? id like to upgrade into VGA instead of just the usual component cables.

What resolution does the TV need to be for VGA to take full advantage of the cables?

Here's a CHART to help all those moving to a VGA CONNECTION:

As you can see, those with LCD's that have resolutions of 768x1360 you will actually be getting the 2nd highest resolution allowed on the 360, with 1080x1920 being the highest if you go VGA..

Whats funny Joe is that last night i connected vga cables to my hdtv and put the settings on 1360x768. My tv has that resolution but when i did that i see screen is off and when i alien it nothing happens. I finally got it to work but it looked like the bottom was black and the colors seem washed up a bit. I hear theres an update today to fix the 1080p problems and other vga hd problems. When i go home im going to update and see if it fixes the problem.

my monitors highest output is 1280x 1024.. Is the 6% anamorphic distortion bad? i dont even know what that is

                              Should I drop down to 1280x 720?

1280 x 720 is a widescreen resolution and I think your monitor is 4:3. Judging by the chart, if you want no distortion, you'd have to drop down to 1024 x 768.

I don't know how bad that level of distortion actually is (manifesting itself in a weird aspect ratio, like when you squeeze a widescreen res into a 4:3 frame or vice versa, for example, not sure about the actual definition though). Judging by the number, 6%, it doesn't seem too bad. You'll just have to pick the best looking resolution when you set it up.
