I have a question concerning those that use headsets and those that don't. I convinced myself to only play those with headsets so I can talk to them and get in their good graces... hoping to be able to even set some ground rules for the game with them. In my experience, it has never failed. But I play PS2 online, and very rarely. SOCOM would be an exception, because it isn't just a head-to-head thing.

Now, what is it like on Xbox Live? When people "cheese", are you on the mic with them? Is there ever any conversing during this "cheese"? Better yet, why do we call it "cheese"?

I mainly just use a headset with people on my friends list. I consider cheese when a player is running the same plays, and you can tell. Going for it on 4th, no matter what the position. Things like that I consider cheese, when I go to play football online, I'm looking for a game thats played the way football is played on Sunday.

Send a complaint to Microsoft. The guy seems like a sub-standard human being so if he loses $50 on his Live membership I'll chalk it up to a $50 gain for the rest of the universe. Live is a pay service and MS seems to want to promote a friendly atmosphere so I don't see why anyone should have to deal with a jerk like that.

I don't know what the big deal is. How is reporting someone for breaking (multiple) TOS rules on XBL "over-board"? I have to say I can't understand that.

An E-mail took maybe 10 minutes (normal typer) and a few minutes for an e-mail to Major Nelson. If he called the cops, FBI, etc. I would say that is not necessary but to not report someone because they did break rules (and possibly laws), is wrong IMO.

It seems to me they both take gaming way too seriously. If a kid waved a stun gun at me in person, then it would be a threat. To take a picture and flip someone over in cyberspace seems like a non-factor to me.

I would also hope Microsoft doesn't start deleting accounts on the basis that someone insulted another player, or took a picture of themselves flicking them off. Block the user and move on. No need for anyone to be banned.

Online insults are worthless and a joke. The online environment is driven by people posing, making empty threats, and acting without limitations within the cyber realm. If people don't realize, or can't handle, that, then they should be the ones leaving, because it's more dangerous to take such silly insults personally than it is to issue them.

I haven't played a game online for years, so you can be assured I am not one of "those guys."

As for online not being serious, or real, that's correct. Reality is outside, it's life. Online gaming provides the opportunity for people to take part in a fantasy-like environment where they can compete against others. It is not reality and this is indicated by people being entirely anonymous aside from a username that is a total fictional creation. Those that take online threats, insults, and general discourse too seriously need to take a step back and realize that they are playing a game. If someone says they are pissed off and going to kill you, you can block them and never hear from them again. Reporting them is also an option, but alas, it's not one I tend to favor. I'd much rather respond to the person making them look like an ignorant and clueless moron than I would pass my issue on to someone else to deal with. After I got tired of "playing" with them, I would block them and move on. But that's just me.

That being said, if you can find some legitimate sources that cite people getting threatened, and then shot, attacked, or otherwise maimed, as the result of a follow-up to an online threat made via Xbox Live, please share them, as I'd love to read and be enlightened.
