        Re: Left 4 Dead

so since the update came out I've pretty much only been playing this and I love versus but damn, I don't think I've been on a good versus team in my last 40 tries.

I usually have one of my roommates on my team, and out of the three only one is good. It seems the other two slots are occupied by complete idiots who are playing the game for the first time. And then after we fail to make it to the first safe house, they quit like it was my fault they constantly shot me in the back and failed to melee hunters/smokers off of me.

        /end rant

On another note, I'm looking to improve my skills as the infected. I know teamwork is key but what are some things I can do from an individual standpoint? I feel completely useless as the hunter as if the other team isn't affected by my pounce and can immediately melee me/kill me. Tips, suggestions?

Rumortoid: Valve, EA to reveal Left 4 Dead 2 at E3 next week

E3 is right around the corner, and Destructoid has been hearing all sorts of juicy rumors. A lot of things are being said, and among them a very reliable source has informed us that Valve and Electronic Arts are looking to reveal Left 4 Dead 2 at E3 next week.

L4D 2 will see four different survivors battling the infected horde as they try to survive the game's four scenarios. The game is said to be set during the same time frame and locations as the first title, but the four new survivors will be fighting off the infected in other parts of the same locations. To us, it sounds a bit like Ada sidequests from Resident Evil 4 -- while Leon was going through his mission, Ada was running around the same areas, doing her own thing.

We're also told to expect new guns, as well as a variety of melee weapons like a baseball bat, axe, and chainsaw. Players should also brace themselves to come face to face with at least one new special infected "boss" character... something big. And fast.

If what we're hearing is solid, Left 4 Dead 2 is planned for the PC and Xbox 360. While the information we received was vague, the source had been reliable in the past, and the idea of a sequel to Destructoid's 2008 "Game of the Year" was too exciting not to share. If this pans out, we hope to see more -- at least in the form of an announcement trailer -- at E3 next week.
I would say it's more likely this is an expansion, as a sequel (especially this early) isn't Valve-like.

It makes absolutely no sense to have a sequel out so early, clearly it's going to be DLC.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

seems like it. Being optimistic, I am hoping for two new movies (campaigns) with versus support for each. A new survival level, such as Last Stand, would be a welcome bonus as well.

Thinking about getting this game, and want to know what you all think. It sure looks fun but I'm concerned that if the gameplay is too simplistic or repetitive I will get bored with it. Any thoughts? Also, is online still lively?

Online is still very lively, and I'm sure it will remain so for a while.

The overall simplicity of the game is a concern, I understand, but I feel this game is different. Since each play through is different the replayability is extremely high. In case you didn't know you, the game incorporates this thing called the "AI Director" that spawns enemies in different spots, in different increments and at different times every time through the game so you never know what's coming.

It is not for everybody. I love the game and I felt it was worth the money I paid for it but others disagree. To this, I suggest renting it first and giving it a week or so. That should give you a pretty good indication of whether or not you want to get it or not.

And in regards to the simplicity, I feel that actually makes it better. There's so little to focus on besides playing the game itself, which is an absolute blast. Other games these days try to focus on giving the player an infinite amount of stuff like 20-30 guns, ranking systems, clan ladders, etc. that sometimes the game itself loses focus. That's not the case here and I feel it works very well.

This is a pretty big shocker.

                        Left 4 Dead 2 Hands-On

Now it might seem unusual for Valve to be rolling out a sequel to Left 4 Dead so quickly; after all, the original game shipped on November 18. The sequel is due out on November 17, almost one full year later. However, Valve's Chet Faliszek (known almost universally in the industry as just Chet) told us that when they finished production of Left 4 Dead last year many of the developers had ideas they wanted to pursue for a sequel. And since Valve employees get to choose their next project, it quickly paved the way for Left 4 Dead 2.
