    Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)

Since I heard this game was a bit short I started playing it on Hard.

So far I have been having a great time. The story and cutscenes are top quality. The voice acting is some of the best I have heard in a game in a while.

The controls work great and obviously the game is gorgeous to look at.

I have only come accross a few sections of frustration (many deaths, no checkpoint), but I chalk that up to the fact that I am playing on Hard and have not been as careful as I should be.

The game is just alot of fun and doesn't take itself too seriously. I like the humor.

      Love. This. Game.

Easily the best next-gen (current-gen now) purchase I've made... and I've been in it since the 360 released.

      Awesome, just awesome.

Right, but in a video game things aren't exactly like real life. If they were, it wouldn't be any fun.

Well, I took the plung on this on ebay. I'm looking forward to trying this out. Everything I've heard has been positive. My PS3 is going to be confused that I'm actually putting a game in it.

my only gripe is the amount of bullets it takes to bring someone down. And the AI for the pirates is not the best. Other than that, I am enjoying the game.

That was sort of bothering me at first, but not anymore. I'm finding the Pirates AI to be decent enough. They are rarely out of cover and seem to try and flank me. Lots of grenade tossing as well.

On average, three well placed shots can take an enemy down (hitting only limbs will require plenty more), but I am always aiming for headshots and tend to get them often, so I can usually down them pretty fast. Plus, Drake can take a beating himself so having to shot an enemy 3 or 4 times does not seem unreasonable. I don't want the game to be too easy.

I'm probably a third of the way through the game and got the "100 headshots" achievement last night... I was pretty proud of myself, haha.

Also, it's crazy how there are zero load times! It's like watching one long continuous 12 hour movie... awesome stuff!

Yeah, aiming for the head is the only way to go.

                    Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)

Finished up today. Took me 11 hours and 8 minutes, for the record, and that was on Easy.

Very cool game. A perfect rental.

I thought all the shooting got a little tedious - like people have been saying, 5 and 6 shots to kill someone pretty much sucks, especially when there's anywhere between 8-20 guys to kill in a given firefight. And I'm sorry, but platforming just isn't fun. That part near the end where you have to get across the church - I'll spare you reason why but I had to do it like 20 times - who thinks that sort of thing is fun? Seems like a holdover that doesn't really belong in gaming anymore. Just my opinion.

Anyway, good sound, GREAT graphics, good story, good action, good controls. Overall, like I said, a perfect rental - and had I bought it, I wouldn't be mad.

I had trouble at that spot, too. Got across easily, but couldn't figure out there are two keys until a Hint prompt 15 minutes from the first attempt.

Finished last night. 9 hours, 37 minutes on Normal. 26/60 treasures.

The most fun I've had with a PS3 exclusive, so far. This game fills a nice light-hearted adventure void.

My short wishlist for Uncharted 2:

                      Better melee
A crouch button for easy stealth
                      Boss Battles
Gun cursor that turns red for head shots
                      The ability to go underwater

They are technically "boss battles", but I don't consider those boss battles. I'm talking stuff on the scale of Castlevania, God of War, Heavenly Sword, etc. Those are legit boss battles, not "complicated" firefights.

There are only two things I don't agree with in your post:

                            1) Boss battles - I just don't think they would fit in at all... I love the way it's set up right now.

                            2) Red cursor for headshots - That would make it WAAAAAAAY too easy... I had the 100 headshots achievement before I was even 1/4 into the game.

I definitely agree with crouch and underwater stuff though. As for melee... I'm indifferent either way; I think it works fine already, and I enjoy it quite a bit... I do however think it could still be tweaked and improved.

Considering how well everything else is implemented, I think Naughty Dog would do alright adding boss battles into Uncharted. It may slow the flow of the game for some, but learn from Konami, have multiple solutions to win a boss battle, like The End in MGS 3.

Headshots come easy early in the game, but seemingly become more difficult, at least for me. The hit detection seems forgiving with the Dragon Sniper, though.

Melee feels rhythm based, which doesn't work when most enemy encounters have you outnumbered. The core mechanics are good, but would be put to better use with a legit way to be stealthy.

                                I'm stuck fellas....

I just got to the fortress (chap 5) and I scaled the wall to get in no prob... but, when I go back out the window like opening to scale around the side of the fortress, grabbing and swing through the 1st set of vines is no prob.... but, the second set of two vines, I keep falling to my doom.... I've been trying this for 3days now and I can't seem to figure out how to use the vines and grab the next set of crevasses in the outer wall to continue... any help would be appreciated...

I believe I've fallen about 30 times.... and each time I cringe... can some1 help a brotha out, going on day 4.....
