    Fable 2

Game is still a long ways away from coming out, but Molyneux had his session today at GDC, and unveiled the first major addition to Fable 2.

Two editors from IGN give their take on the session.

You may have heard a bit about what the original Fable would be like in the years prior to its release. It was probably all over exaggerated fluff, but that is part of the charm of games at the direction of Lionhead's Peter Molyneux. If there is a way to succinctly describe Mr. Molyneux, it would have to include the word 'ambitious.' Always willing to talk in great detail about his plans for upcoming games, Molyneux tried his best to remain reserved for his demonstration of Fable 2 at the 2007 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. He couldn't do it, but he tried to hold back his excitement.
    ...

    Teamxbox Impressions

“Groundbreaking,” “innovative” and “genre-changing” were a few of the terms tossed around the tech-laden GDC air from people already privy to the closed-doors Fable 2 demo.

When you got past all the hype the first game was a solid, enjoyable game. I'll be keeping an eye out for the second one for sure!

      Exactly.

Too bad it only took like 15 minutes to beat.

I never knew what the hype was so I wasn't dissapointed. I liked the game and I can't wait for the next one.

The hype was pretty crazy for Fable, and I will admit, I was disappointed when I found out that certain things that were promised didn't make it in. Also, the game was a bit short. I still really enjoyed the game though. I think Molyneux will deliver on his original vision with Fable 2.

What exactly was supposed to be in the game that got cut?

Just one of the examples: An acorn would fall off a tree, and some time later if you revisited the same place a tree would be growing due to it.

Along with the fact that constantly swinging a huge sword would actually be how your character would grow stronger. There'd be co-op with the second player as your alter-ego.

Those two things are mad advanced on the real. I'm mad that I didn't even play Fable or Fable: Lost Chapters so I could be upset at how the game turned out. Man, if only games were more focused on bringing that type of greatness into their game. That is seriously mind-boggling.

I beat both Fable and Fable: The Lost Chapters. They were probably my favorite games for the XBOX. I actually liked the length of the game. It wasn't a major commitment playing the game and trying to beat it. It could afford to be a bit longer for Fable 2, but only if it can sustain the same level of fun that was present throughout the course of Fable 1.

My thoughts exactly regarding the length of the game. I played through Fable: the lost chapters and while it could have been longer i still got an enjoyable 15-16 hours gameplay out of it.

I'm tempted to go play back through it as an evil character but don't think i can be bothered with so many decent 360 games out now.

With all the praise i have heaped on fable in this thread when you compare it Oblivion (prob my fav RPG of all time) it's not even in the same stratosphere but still a solid title if you haven't played it and want a cheap pickup to add to the collection.

Molyneaux is incredibly ambitious. Fable had crazy anticipation but fell short. If they can come through with their ideas, this game could be insane. His vision of love in a videogame is innovative. I can't wait to see how it evolves.

Community Update March (Fanatical Dogs and Love)

It's been a very interesting few weeks here at Lionhead Studios! We've had our very first (public) showing of Fable 2; at the Game Developer Conference. Seeing your reaction to some of the revelations was just overwhelming.
The Friday before Peter's talk at GDC; he gave a demonstration to the whole company. For many of us, this was an emotional moment (believe it or not); some of us were really moved while others didn't care a single bit about your trusty four-legged-friend. The game doesn’t look absolutely stunning yet, so the engine team was rather concerned, Simon was spotted nervously lurking outside but even at this stage the game looks unique and easily distinguishable from the original Fable. Making the comparison between that very first build of Wishworld back in 1999, this game looks stunning. Obviously, this is going to be next-gen 3.0 BIS-and-then-some-more.
We will be releasing our first episode fairly soon (within the next few weeks), see it as an inside look into Lionhead Studios. If they are popular, we'll be making them each 6-8 weeks, until Fable 2 is released and will feature on the new, upcoming http://community.lionhead.com.

The level designers on Fable 2 have been speaking about the different locations such as Bowerstone and Brightwood. We'll be showing some very early in game footage in the first video diary, which will nicely set the tone for the second episode. But first, the Lionhead Video Diary: Episode 1! Soon. Really soon, on the marketplace and web.
