Re: Fable 2
My rage is abating. It's one of those things...like when I'm looking at the Emote Wheel. I just knew I could assign those to some kind of a shortcut. Wrong.
Or when going to the map screen...I just knew that somehow I could zoom into a real map too look at the lay of the town. No way it's just a warp point inventory. No way, right?
Even little things, like the Barber. Surely those pink cards aren't the only preview for the hairstyles, right? Right???
How can they put so much work into such a beautiful game and do these crazy things with the interface?
But I'm getting over it. I'm almost ready to dive back in and enjoy it. I needed a moment to step back, recover, and face the reality of a ******** interface that no one warned me about.Comment

Re: Fable 2
Yeah man, I've learned my lesson and I'm over it already. It's a little annoying to find things in town(still haven't found the Inn), but now that I know it's weird, I can work around it. It was just a bit of a shock after playing so many gams with simple and effective maps and destination setting features.Comment

Re: Fable 2
By the way, I think you have to acquire the skill in order to block. After that, then you hold X.Comment

Re: Fable 2
Yup...To block, hold X (once you've upgraded your Dextrous Styles to level 1), i would've preferred it mapped to something else but at least its effective. It appears you can only block with your sword/weapon, because i certainly haven't seen any armour or shields in the game yet and i've played about 6 hours now...please correct me if i'm wrong.
Also, do i have to worry about ammunition for my pistols and rifles, or is it unlimited? A dude on my Friends list gifted me a sweet rifle (forgot what its called but its rated either 4-star or 5-star) and since it was early on i didn't want to waste ammo...but now that i've started using it i can't any sign of ammo remaining or if thats even an issue.
Finally, is it possible to save to a new game save at all, because AFAIK it only gives the option to overwrite my current save...i just completed the Spire and alternate game saves would have been ideal at that point because of the choices you can make. But i guess it won't take long to get back to that point in a new game anyway.Last edited by calcutta; 11-01-2008, 11:30 PM.Comment

Re: Fable 2
That's exactly what I mean. Those questions you're asking are interface issues. Most games don't make you pay for blocking, or give you unlimited ammo. The welcoming experience could have been better in Fable, but I can already tell that it'll be one of my favorite games, so I'm forgiving these early issues.Comment

Re: Fable 2
The Fable 1 interface wasn't anything to write home about either.
Anyway, possible spoiler:
SpoilerI started a new game and during the Childhood part, I decided to give that creepy dude the warrants instead of the Guard. I didn't think anything of it. Then the other day I finally stroll into Old Town as an adult and its completely different from my run-through as a "good guy." Old Town is run down and basically a poverty stricken section, whereas in my last run through it was vibrant, wealthy, and had a police presence. Insane. I love this game.
What spells does everybody like to use? Right now I'm using Inferno and the twister thing. I'm hoping the Twister one maxes out to be pretty cool because right now its a little weak even on level two.
And, now that we've spent a couple weeks with the game, what areas do you guys hope Lionhead improves?

Re: Fable 2
So far I have only 1 rank 3 spell, and I use shock for 1, time control for 2 and force push for 3. They work alright but I wanna try out the other ones eventually.
I have some questions though, I'll just throw the spoiler thing on just to make sure. I rented it so theres no manual and gamefaqs looks like a WoW trade board.
SpoilerWhat is all that green stuff all over my dude? Sometimes it looks like he has big *** green veins all over the place and they get all bright. Also when I buy/get clothes, can I make my ugly *** wife wear them? She needs some hotpants.Comment

I wish there was some way to play without the golden trail, but it's not possible (I know you can turn it off, but that'd make the game impossible). The map is horrible and not anything you can use to find anything. I really wish for a map similar to Oblivion, where I can see where everything is relative to the other areas, zoom in when needed, set waypoints (that would be shown using the golden trail), stuff like that.
The d-pad defaults to some expressions, but I have no clue exactly what they are, the stupid pictures don't explain enough and I'm not going to just randomly guess.
I've let the annoyances go, but they're definitely there. I just warp/follow the trail and it's still hella fun. I guess they didn't want to give us the Oblivion type possibility, and wanted it as easy as possible for everyone to get into.
I also kinda wish you had to specialize your guy more, rather than just being able to unlock everything over time. I'm getting to the point (well, unlocking all top spells will take a little while, but i've got skill and the fighting one all unlocked) and it's not like I picked ranged vs. fighting. I know Fable's different than Oblivion type depth, I guess I just wished there was more of a choice of the type of character you are.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

I'm looking to check out vortex and force push next and see how they are at level 3, just trying to max out something else first.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

I remember coming back after ten years on the spire and seeing the archaeological dig site unearthed more, Temple of Light built up, and Westcliff completely different thanks to my donation to Barnum. But yeah, I was just shocked that small decision made that big of an impact in the game.

Re: Fable 2
Mgoblue, we're on the same page. The issues hurt, because you know they're getting in the way of a great game, but once you're past them it is a great game. It's just mind boggling to see such great design and such terrible design all in one package.
For Spells, I'm still starting out but I decided on a range only character, so I'm using Time Control, Force Push and my ranged attacks, usually in that order. If they get close I just roll out of the way, slow them down and go back to the Slow>Force>Crossbow/Firearm attacks.
Great game though. Addictive, fun, beautiful, great voice acting, great art etc. Just a flat out F- in interface, lol.Comment
