It wouldn't just be bad for sports games though. EA bought into Ubisoft, and could also kill off another competitor if they bought take two.

Re: Take Two Selling???
If and I said if .... EA get a hold of T2 and shuts down 2K sports. I might really consider exiting gaming. I mean I love all the "Tom Clancy" games and Halo and such. But I really "Love" sports gaming. If this would be the results of competition ........ where will it stop. I never heard of Ford trying to get the exclusive on "the pony car" so Chevy can't make another Camero. Instead they welcome the challenge.
This whole thing to the suits is money. But to the programmers and Devs. .....it's about showing what you can do. When "the money" overshadows "the art" ....... we as gamers lose.Boy this habit is as bad as dope!!!

Re: Take Two's pending sale
Wouldn't they have the same barrier MS has? (massive loss in sales due to a shift from multi platform to just one).
Ubisoft have stated on record they could be interested in a sports division. Otherwise though, EA sure is looking more and more likely.Comment

EA may have 20% but Ubisoft has said they want to be a direct competitor to EA in the sports arena.Comment

Re: Take Two Selling???
I wonder if Microsoft is saying that because they don't want to tamper with the insider-trading laws?
I'm still confused as to why it would cost Microsoft so much money to make games for only one system now. They have exclusive titles now, and just because they buy Take-Two it doesn't mean they have to continue their entire catelog of games. Just make the GTA series and the sports line.Comment

Re: Take Two Selling???
As long as it's not EA I'm happy. Given the current state of the next gen system wars, I've wondered why MS wouldn't be interested in taking this on myself. The reasons why they wouldn't were well explained in the article, but this is the sort of thing that could potentially tip things largely in their favor in terms of hardware sales. And what would prevent Take Two (if they were MS property) from doing timed releases, which would basically be the equivalent of what Take Two was doing during the PS2/XBox era? Outside of Sony simply saying they can't develop games for them of courseHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Re: Take Two's pending sale
I wouldn't be laughing at all myself, given the state Madden/NCAA is in. It's so bad you have people legitimately looking forward to a generic football game. As a PS3 owner I can see where you'd be happy, as EA has consistently shown favor to Sony. But I think such a move might kill off much of what little is left of competitive sports gaming in general, as well as potentially hurt gaming on the whole if Take Two has to take more of an EA approach to game developmentHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Re: Take Two's pending sale
They could sell into parts, if they so wished. The real "gem" of the sale would be Rockstar North. GTA is money no matter how you slice it .. (Uh, as long as you dont' try to slide porn into it and get caught..)
Visual Concepts/Kush/2K Sports is another matter. With it comes the 3rd party MLB License. With that comes a higher price (even though I've read 2K sports itself is not profitable). Hopefully, the associated price-tag wouldn't give UbiSoft too much "sticker shock".
Because if not, I think this would be a no-brainer buy for EA.Comment

I think MS is still in the running and I hope so. I assume there would be a lot of consumers, who are on the fence, that would choose the 360 over the PS3 if they knew GTA would only be on the Xbox.Comment
