Oh yeah HOI is definitely hard. My playthroughs are all in progress and honestly I haven't touched it in 6 months and I know a lot has changed since then.

CK2 is definitely fun as well. Ironically the one I had the hardest time with was EU4.

One day I want to start a game in 790 AD in CK2 then play it until the end then transfer it to EU 4 and continue it. I have never tried the save transfer thing though so I am not sure how well everything translates.

I think it all depends on which game you start with. You get into the habits of how to build and the next game tweaks enough of the focus that it throws you off.

I’m not sure if the CK2 converter is valid for the newest versions of EU4, so before you spend money on it, I’d check on the EU4 reddit in the weekly general questions thread. It is very active in there and you will probably get an answer.

I have done one CK2 save that spanned the entire game from the 769 start date. Started in Ireland and by the end of the save, Dublin was the world’s greatest city. It was the seat of an empire that spanned from Scandinavia through the Iberian peninsula. The culture of Paris became Irish lol

        Lol at Paris.

I will have to check out the converter and the reddit for it. I saw it a while back on the dlc but never bought it.

CK2 was my first paradox game and it is what got me hooked on the grand strategy style of game and next was HOI4. I didn't get EU4 until it was on a steam sale so you definitely make a good point on which one you start with.

I jumped in today, ordering The Hunters: German U-Boats at War, 1939-43. It's a simple game so I thought it would be a good place to start.

I'm really only interested in WWII and specifically the Eastern Front. I've looked at games like Old School Tactical Vol. 1 and No Retreat! The Russian Front but I thought I'd start with something simpler so as to not be overwhelmed and with something that is specifically designed for solitaire play.
          I guess I'm in now.

After buying The Hunters, I bought a corner rounder to clip counters with and a small stockpile of counter storage trays.

I also bought the sequel to The Hunters last week. The Hunted: Twilight of the U-Boats 1943-45 should have arrived already but the, uh, Postal Service, you know.

I'm sure that at some point I'll be looking to buy Silent Victory: US Submarines in the Pacific, 1941-45 and the new one - Beneath the Med: Regia Marina 1940-43 to complete the series.

I also got in on a few games that are in various stages of P500 at GMT:

          1. The Russian Campaign: Deluxe 5th Edition (also getting the mounted map)

          2. No Retreat!: The Russian Front Deluxe Edition, 3rd Printing

          3. WW2: Barbarossa to Berlin, 3rd Printing

          4. Absolute War!: The Russian Front 1941-45

I really want to buy Unconditional Surrender: World War II in Europe but I can't find the mounted map anywhere and it's 44"x34". I need to get the mounted map and a bigger table to play that one!

Anyway, thought I'd share in case anyone here plays any tabletop war games.

Don't know if you're open to PC games, but Combat Mission 2: Barbarossa to Berlin is one of the best computer wargames out there with an outstanding Eastern Front campaign ranging from 1941 to 1945 (including all 3 fronts)

Last place I'd expect to see a thread like this !

Since the post above, I removed WW2: Barbarossa to Berlin from my P500 because it has paper maps. Until I bite the bullet and get some plexiglass, I'm avoiding paper maps.

I've also added Wolfpack to my P500 and I added Unconditional Surrender and the mounted maps which, thankfully, were added to the P500 recently. I figured out that I do have a desk that is big enough to play that monster on.

Additionally, I recently purchased Heroes of the Motherland and the LnLT Solo system. I'm still pecking through the rules for HotM and I'll want to play a bit to get comfortable with the system before I try to learn how to use the Solo system.

With the massive sales that Lock 'n Load Publishing is having, I figured I'd buy the Solo system while it was cheap.

I also bought the HotM X-Maps and I'm looking at the Dark July '43 expansion if I like HotM. If I get DJ43, I may also get the series rulebook (v5.1).

For now, I have my hands full with trying to learn how to play HotM.

The first of the GMT P500 pre-orders that I jumped on last year has just arrived.

Absolute War!: The Russian Front 1941-45 was delivered today. I haven't done much but open the box yet but the mounted map is quite nice and very good quality.
