    Re: Harmonix's Rock Band Discussion

"Guitar Hero World Tour" -- the fourth iteration of the franchise that started the music-game trend -- will be released in October and will feature a "Rock Band"-like assemblage of peripheral instruments for the first time, as well as the ability make instrumental music, a feature Rigopulos said won't be found on "Rock Band 2."

"We really felt like we wanted to do it right," said Rigopulos. "We're taking a radically different approach to that problem. It's something we wanted to take more time to do it right. It's actually something we're not focused on in 'Rock Band 2.' We're really focused on other areas related to the music and bringing the community together."

I would bet that Rock Band will have some incredible online features that GH:WT won't be able to touch, and Guitar Hero will have song creator.

I'm, honestly, not really disappointed about no song creator. If we could have lyrics and such, then I'd be a tad bit disappointed...but just playing through some instrumentals would get boring, to me.

yeah, it doesn't mean much to me either. Some songs could be fun to play, but a song without vocals is like a football game without real players.

I agree, it would feel legit to me anyway. There wouldn't be hardly any songs that are charted well anyway.
We get a few songs or more every week anyway. Right when Rock Band 2 comes out Harmonix will be bringing out the big dogs to dlc. I'm hoping for some Nirvana, Zeppelin, Beatles, Stones, and more Metallica. And any songs we get will be one top of the 12 songs from The Who coming out in a couple weeks. We probably won't get all the bands I want, but probably at least a couple.
Another band I would love to see more of is The Killers, we have When We Were Young, but we need All These Things I've Dones, and Mr. Brightside.

I don't mind having instrumentals, and if they let you improv vocals on top of it, then I'm fine with that as well, because then it would just be lyricless karaoke. The real issue for me is the quality of the sound, the quality of the software, and the quality of the community interface. If all of that goes well, I'd at least pick up the disc for GH4, if not the drums and all that. No way am I going in on more fake drums before I get real electric V-drums. After you can 5 star everything on expert tour, you really need to move on to an electric kit and just start jamming anyway.

No song creator not a big deal to me. I don't see myself using it very much, or being able to create good note charts anyway. Even a lot of the modded GH2 videos you see on youtube, most of the charts are not very good.

I am still fully expecting to be getting RB2 over GHWT at this point.

I'm pretty sure I'd never take the time to create one. That seems like too much work, very little play.

Not really interested in the song creator for GH IV... if I want to make my own music, I'll just play my real guitar.

haha thats exactly what I was thinking when I wrote my post above.

If I want to play a song thats not in the game, I'll play it on real guitar.

I'd be curious as to which songs are the most purchased.
Aside from that stat, the only thing I've heard regarding how much a song was sold is that the RB version of "Saints of Los Angeles" outsold the iTunes version 5:1 in the first couple weeks
