I'm loving the game so far too, but it seems I have more success killing bad guys not using VATS. Many times using VATS, even if the body part I'm targeting is 95%, I seem to miss or it takes alot shots to kill them, even when aiming at the head. I'm sure once I level up more it will get better but I would think if I'm targeting something at 95% it should not miss. But I do love blowing enemies heads off. I like this way more than Oblivion, which I found boring and never finished.

Re: Fallout 3
Playing on hard and loving it a lot more than oblivion for one huge reason, there are areas your low level character should keep his or her nose out of. You really have to play a more careful style whereas in oblivion I always felt like I could go just about anywhere and either kill or get away from any trouble I got into. Even out in the wasteland I've taken to moving through unknown areas while sneaking. You'll see a red [CAUTION] warning when an enemy is near. If you're careful you can get around them if you aren't ready for a fight.
In this one, I know to avoid certain areas (the river areas because mireluks are there), I'm hesitant to wander too far away from places I know for fear of muties, and exploring 'dungeons' has a bigger element of fear (turning a corner and seeing a radscorp and being low on ammo - OH CRAP! RUN AWAY!).
I sort of ignored melee combat skill points and I'm thinking that might be a mistake. Taking out the molerats and other low level not shooting baddies with a bat to save ammo probably is a good idea.Comment

Re: Fallout 3
You only have so many AP points to shoot with. Use them, then if you are good with aiming, shoot fps style. If you aren't good aiming, run and hide until your AP comes back.
Don't always shoot for the head, shoot where you've got a high% to hit. Also look at the bar under the %, it might already be low for some reason (npcs fight other npcs it would seem), so aim for the weakened areas if they have any. Taking off someone's leg is just as good as taking off their head.Comment

I play the exact same way Mudtiger. I'm in a place right now where I'm actually thinking about going all the way back to Megaton for some ammo for the combat shotgun. I wasted a lot of ammo on those dang mireluks (sp?) before I realized where to shot and with what gun.Last edited by Mr.Wednesday; 10-29-2008, 11:19 AM.PSN: PhiNuPi

Re: Fallout 3
Yeah speaking about dreams, not very good ones last night. Lol. What I dont get is it doesn't seem like a very scary game like Codemned but once you are outside a city and it gets dark and you hear noises, you poop your pants. Lol. Especially when you see bandits up ahead and you use VATS and cycle through targets and then Vats goes behind you and shows a mutation behind you that literally makes you jump and piss yourself.Note to self, every 3 steps hit VATS button. :P

Been there, done that. At that point if there had been a self termination button I'd have used it....
As far as dreams, it's not so much I dream about the games but I'll lay in bed and it will be at least an hour before my brain settles and stops calculating risk/reward scenarios...Joshua:

Re: Fallout 3
First game ever that I've actually played with the lights off just because. This game freaks me out for some reason. Loving it though. Only thing I have a problem with is that I wish I had more ammo. Barely made it throughSpoilerthe fire ant cave. Had to steal ammo from the Doctor to kill the final Queen Ant Guardion (or whatever they were called) and I barely had enough for that.Comment

Re: Fallout 3
Glad I'm not the only one who gets kind of freaked out at the game..lol
SpoilerAnybody met the Super Mutant who is friendly? Uncle something... I was walking around and this huge Mutant walked right by me, I was like what the hell? he didnt attack so I talked to him..
Nice guy lol I followed him for a bit and he was killing bramins all over the place..I must have picked up 7 steaks from his kills lol..So not everything out there is bad..Last edited by Darkleaf; 10-29-2008, 01:38 PM.Comment

Re: Fallout 3
SpoilerI went for the elementary school off to the left of Megaton when I got out of the vault. There were a ton of raiders in there and one of their dogs. I picked up a pair of spiked knuckles which didn't do as much damage as I thought they would. I also acquired a chinese assault rifle...neat. The school is crazy though. There are dead bodies hanging from meat hooks and at one point there is this small cell with a bunch of skeletons and bloody hand prints all over the walls. It's creepy as heck and the attention to detail is amazing.Goozex

Regarding the leveling issues of oblivion - From Fallout Boards
"How does the levelling work? Is it like Oblivion where the game levels up with you?(blogsguardian.co.uk)
No. One of our main learnings from Oblivion was that this doesn't work. We still do it in some main quest situations where you are locked in and can't come and go. But the world is what it is. You start off in the world and there will be places which are too tough to deal with and some that are easy. So you will need to come back when you are tough. We may occasionally increase the weapon of an enemy but there will be none of that jarring experience in Oblivion where bandits suddenly have glass armour as opposed to leather because you're a [censored]. Raiders will be raiders whatever. It was also jarring in Oblivion when you go into an area and there was a skeleton. You come back later and it's a Dread Wraith and really tough to kill. You can now go to areas and be a [censored] and also go to areas where you are barely surviving. If you go away and get better skills and then come back the area will be as you left it and won't have got tougher.
