    Re: Fallout 3

Finally finished Operation: Anchorage and I am loving a couple of the goodies you get.

What is the latest time table for the Pitt? I can't wait to play in Pittsburgh.

Glad I could help...just be prepared to go in light. There is alot of loot in there plus a bobblehead...had to go back twice to get it all. And it wasn't easy to get in the armory either.

Just went through the Depot, and man you were right. There was a TON of loot, and it took me a while to figure out you had to run through the whole depot in order to enter the armory. But it was totally worth it to get the MIRV Fatman. Took it over to Takoma Park to kill the Behemoth, and the freakin thing shot out EIGHT nukes at once and obliterated everything in the area. Too bad i'll have to find more nukes to use it again now. For now, i'm storing the MIRV in my house in Megaton until I gather some more nukes.

Fallout 3 DLC: The Pitt Screens

This March the second round of downloadable content for Bethesda Softworks' single-player RPG Fallout 3 will be made available for Xbox 360 and PC platforms. On Microsoft's console it'll cost 800 Microsoft Points, or $10 USD, and PC gamers will have to shell out a comparable $9.99 USD.

For this bit of DLC players will wade through the smoking remains of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania where slaves and Raider masters clash. Bethesda is promising new enemies, weapons, new perks and achievements, and the opportunity to role-play. From the official press release, "The Pitt opens with a desperate radio message, and a meeting with its sender, an escaped slave named Wernher. Wernher claims that the leader of "The Pitt" has created a cure for mutations… and he needs you to go in and retrieve it. From there, the player can proceed in a number of ways, in true Fallout 3 style. Do you fight your way in, or disguise yourself as a slave? Ally with the slaves, or join their Raider overlords? The Pitt is very morally ambiguous – there's no real right or wrong, just choices to be made, sides to be chosen, and a mystery that could send shockwaves throughout the entire Wasteland."

                IGN: The Pitt Hands-on

If you weren't thrilled with Operation: Anchorage's heavy focus on combat, you'll likely enjoy The Pitt a lot more. There's lots of dialogue, several side quests, and a bigger emphasis on exploration for this second game add-on.
There aren't any vendors in The Pitt, so you'll have to do quite a bit of scrounging and acting nice to guards in order to stay healthy and in one piece. Still, I found it fairly easy to amass a small set of munitions inside the slave gates. Once you get that auto-axe, there isn't much that can stand in your way.

The lack of sellers also removes any substantial reason to come back to Pittsburgh once you finish the quest, we're told, though Bethesda was a little vague when we asked whether you could come back to The Pitt for a second visit after completing the quest line. Here's hoping that you can. The city, even in ruins, is a pretty cool place.

                          The Pitt dated March 24

Bethesda just made the release date of Fallout 3's second DLC pack, "The Pitt," officially official: Tuesday, March 24. Like last month's "Operation: Anchorage," the upcoming DLC will come in at 800 ($10) on Xbox 360 and Games for Windows Live simultaneously. Also, Pete Hines from Bethesda confirmed that the recently released patch for the game "is specific to DLC and is required to play The Pitt. It doesn't address anything with the base game outside of that."
                          Eurogamer: The Pitt Hands-On

Having played what I'm told is a little less than a third of The Pitt, I can report this round of DLC is a lot more like the Fallout 3 we know and love. Seeing as I played it with a low level character with decent gun and melee skills, I can't comment on whether the difficulty has been ramped up for the level 20 perk-fiends among us - which was a primary concern with Anchorage, alongside the stripped down roleplay features.

But when you're rummaging through the desks and cupboards of Downtown Pittsburgh, or looting a solitary butter knife from the mangled corpse of a Trog mutant, the health terminals, dissolving bodies and non-interactive environments of Anchorage become a distant memory.
Fallout 3 patch boosts 360 graphics

The nondescript Fallout 3 update released to PC and Xbox 360 owners earlier this week has quietly restocked the 360 version with missing visual effects.

According to Eurogamer's Face-Off maestro Rich Leadbetter's blog, Inside Digital Foundry, the auto-update patch introduces specular maps to certain areas, delightfully illustrated with shots of bugs and a comparison video.

The Xbox 360 version was the better of the two console releases when Fallout 3 released in late October last year, but as Leadbetter points out, "despite its superior frame rate and full-on 4x MSAA, [it] had flaws of its own - notably some inferior textures when viewed close up, along with a lack of specular maps on the monsters and characters, resulting in a somewhat flat look compared to the other versions of the game".

I'm glad The Pitt is going back to the "normal" Fallout play style. I wasn't too happy with the way they had things play out in Anchorage.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.
