    PC - Vista.
Download took about 2 hours...Installation is the exact same as if it were from the CD.
Thanks to Steam I am hopelessly addicted to buying Steam games on direct download so seeing Blizzard following suit with digital downloads I couldn't resist.

spot on xavier, I went ahead and downloaded the digital copy of starcraft and starcraft: broodwar and everything worked fine. Download took about an hour, installation was easy and took about 10 minutes. I played 2 hours of a skirmish and thought like 30 minutes had passed lol. Makes me wish my laptop could run SC 2 but I know it won't even be close to the minimum requirements.

        Good to hear
I just restarted going through the Warcraft III campaign...Something about Blizzard games and always being able to go back and play them.

I want to play some games online but I too don't know why my connection fails.

Either of you two up to a game if we can get things running smoothly?

After literally a decade away from the game, I'm still getting my bearings back so I'm far from getting online with it. Plus I'm playing on a laptop with a sketchy mouse and I wonder how much it would hamper me online.

Is it possible to do 2 humans vs. 2 AI bots? I might be interested in doing that.

Up to 8 can play. Any combination of humans and AI.

Just set up a melee game, have someone join, put 2 comps on, start the game, then ally each other once the game starts. Comps will automatically be on the same team.

(I assume you're talking about playing on bnet)

You have to buy each campaign separately now? And I thought Microsoft was bad.

This might be the worst announcement of all time, and certainly since the $600 PS3.

The thing that made Starcraft so great was the balance, and the thing that made the balance was the extreme limitations of the units.

I really can't see that long of a campaign being a good thing. I really can't imagine enjoying a really long campaign for each race, especially the Zerg. I'll probably buy Terran and Protoss and DL Zerg.

                    Re: Starcraft II Officially Announced

Blizzard rarely messes something up, but holy hell did they ever screw up this time. No way I'm paying 180 bucks for Starcraft II. I don't want three campaigns that are each going to take 10 hours a piece. I want three modest campaigns and the ability to tinker with each race on and offline. They haven't said if you can play online as any of the three races with just one campaign purchase, but if you can only use the one you bought that's a huge slap in the face. I won't buy it.

The only race I cared about in the original was the terran. I never really got into the others.

From the Blizzard website, Chris Sagaty commenting on the release pattern:

That's main point StarCraft II lead producer Chris Sigaty was trying to get across during our brief interview following the StarCraft II panel at BlizzCon where it was announced that the single player campaign would be delivered as three separate products - first Terran, then Zerg, and finally Protoss. "Effectively each game in the will be an expansion," Sigaty explained when I told him of our reader's initial concerns about buying the same game three times with a different single player component. Think Warcraft III's The Frozen Throne, or the original StarCraft's Brood War.

Each new single player campaign will come with upgrades and changes to the multiplayer. The main difference here is that instead of giving you a tacked-on extension of the single-player experience as you often find in an RTS expansion, each title comes with a fully realized campaign.

Chris explained that each of the three installments would play a bit differently as well, with different meta-game types in each. The initial campaign would feature Terran Jim Raynor, with a meta game that involves upgrading technologies. The second focuses on the Zerg, with a meta-element involving diplomacy. I mentioned Star Control, and Chris said that that sort of gameplay element had been discussed.

So why the change? It really comes down to scope. "We always start with this really gigantic scope", Sigaty explained. Basically StarCraft II got bigger than they expected. They have a huge, solid Terran campaign that needs a bit of fleshing out at this point, and once you figure out the dev time needed for the other two campaigns it would have delayed the game for years. After months of discussion, this was their solution.

So basically, as I suggested to Chris, instead of thinking of the StarCraft Trilogy as three separate courses, think of it as three different meals, each with a different flavor.
He didn't specify if you can use any race online with the purchase of just the first, but most are assuming you can. However, each installment will add something to multiplayer so if you want to "keep up" you'll have to buy all three. Weak. The only way I'd be favor of this "split" is if the first game came out at 60 bucks and the other two came out at 10 a piece and were downloadable. I wouldn't be happy about it, but I'd probably suck it up. A lot of people seem pretty pissed, so don't be surprised if something is done to change this plan.

lol yeah right. This is Blizzard. They could ask for $1,000 for SC II and it would still sell millions of copies.

IMO, seeing this just makes me want to download it illegally more. I have no problem paying for a full game but this is just ludicrous.

Oh I don't doubt that. The thing will fly off the shelves when it comes out, its just half the people who buy it will complain as they make their purchase and the other half will be too busy trying to conceal their glee. Their are plenty of Blizzard fans who will love this because they think the company can do know wrong.

Also you can still play online with the other three races if you only have the terran package for example.
