    Re: Mirror's Edge

I still own this game. It was really original, but I think taking it in one direction or the other really does a disservice to what it was. You don't have to be COD or Portal to be succesful--be Mirror's Edge. Although if they have to make a choice, I probably would prefer more of a Portal direction, as I looked at the gameplay like MacGuyver (I think I just aged myself here): Sure, a gun is quicker and more effective, but watching Mac make a smoke bomb out of hydrogen piroxide, a book of matches, and a paint can was so much more entertaining. Likewise, it was a lot more unique and fun to freerun around the environment and judochop people to death than walking around with an AK 47 and taking a minute to line up your jump from rooftop to rooftop.

I may have to grab it again since it looks like there won't be a second one quite yet..if ever.

Man all this talk of Mirrors Edge got me to loaded it up again on Steam. I beat this game awhile back and I forgot how beautiful this game is. This is first person done right...

I don't know what Dice did to render the graphics with but it's downright CG quality. For a 3 year old game the graphics are still top notch compared to some of the games today.

I wouldn't go that far. The color pallette(sp) isn't exactly very deep that they used. Looks very nice though. Going to pick it up when I go out today just to have in my collection.

If they do it i hope they don't go overboard and make it an FPS. The Parkour is what made the game amazingly fun.

              Re: Mirror's Edge

This was posted on IGN back in June but I thought it was interesting, could they have been waiting all of this time for Frostbite 2 to be completed before they started on Mirrors Edge 2?

Mirror's Edge 2 is still in the works, and will more than likely use the Frosbite 2 engine, according to EA Games President Frank Gibeau.

Back in March, IGN interviewed EA Games President Frank Gibeau, who confirmed that there was still life in the Mirror's Edge franchise. When asked about a sequel, he said "We're looking at ideas for it, absolutely."

Well, it seems the Frostbite 2 engine -- used by Battlefield 3 to deliver some of the most realistic visuals yet seen in games -- is a part of those ideas.

Gibeau told Gametrailers Geoff Keighley, "We love that franchise. The DICE guys really created something special the first time around. You've got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one, and that's what we're working on."

When Keighley suggested that it might use Frosbite 2, Gibeau replied, "You'll see that combination, I'm sure."

Sprinting across an urban landscape, rendered using Frosbite 2, could be a visually stunning combination.

                Re: Mirror's Edge

Saw this on IGN today, I always get excited when I see anything regarding Mirror's Edge 2 that's NOT negative.

Ben Cousins of ngmoco Sweden today stated that "it is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production at DICE." Following an OXM article concerning DICE's future as a "Battlefield factory," Cousins perpetuated what's been widely understood for a few years. His comment confirms nothing, of course, but it's interesting to note how often the alleged sequel comes up in the development and publishing side of the industry.

                    Re: Mirror's Edge

A second retail listing has appeared for the unconfirmed Mirror's Edge 2, this time listing the game for Xbox One.

The Amazon Italy listing has since been removed, but not before we managed to screengrab it.

Seeing as the boxart is clearly mocked up, and the release date was listed as January 1, 2020, this is by no means official confirmation of the game's existence. However, this is the second incident in less than a week of an online retailer listing the title; last Thursday it appeared on Amazon Germany for Xbox 360.

In response to the previous listing, EA told IGN, "We appreciate fan enthusiasm for Mirror’s Edge, especially fans throughout the retail channel. This is not official EA material. We have nothing to announce at this time." We've reached out for comment once more, though expect a similar response.

Back at E3 2011, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau indicated that Mirror’s Edge 2could happen using the Frostbite 2 engine. Gibeau said the publisher was “still considering” the title in July 2012, and DICE executive producer Patrick Bach told IGN in August that Mirror’s Edge is “too good to kill.”

There are less than two weeks to go now until EA’s E3 2013 press conference on Monday, June 10th. If Mirror's Edge 2 is on the way, whether just for the Xbox One or other platforms as well, there's every chance we'll hear about it then.

                        Re: Mirror's Edge

It was an ambitious game that needed some love. But if EA has this released, they'd force the devs to shoehorn a multiplayer in or something silly.

I liked the first one, but that'll probably be all there is.

More likely they'll ruin the franchise by making it a run of the mill fps BUT WITH PARKOUR!

The first one was a blast.
Thoroughly enjoyed it in between the runs to the bathroom due to motion sickness...
