    Heaven Sword Review IGN

    "Closing Comments
Heavenly Sword comes very close to being great, but nearly every element of its design falls short in one way or another. The combo system is quite good, though it has a few holes (like no specific block button). The battles quickly become very repetitive due to a lack of interesting enemies and the "arena" battles that frequently pause your progress. Kai's sniper missions work well in theory but can be overly long, and some of the extra bits like the button matching mini-games needed a bit more fine-tuning. Heavenly Sword's presentation is stellar and nicely ties the action sequences together, but we just wish that the same amount of care that went into these cutscenes were applied to the game's pacing."

    9.0 Presentation

The cutscene work is fantastic, as are the extras (even though you can get most of them freely online).

    9.0 Graphics
Beautiful in every respect. Character models are great, and the vistas are a-plenty.

    9.0 Sound
Sound effects are fantastic as is the music and voice work.

    7.0 Gameplay
The combat system is mostly very good, though the battles get repetitive very quickly and some of the extra stuff (like the button matching mini-games) needed more polish.

    5.0 Lasting Appeal
The experience is over fairly quickly. There are a number of really good unlockables to go back and earn, though you can already get them online right now.

    7.0

First LAIR is a huge letdown from reviews, then Heavenly Sword sounds like its not worth the $60 admission, and all we have left now is to see how Ratchet and Clank fairs. Not even the 360 was this big of a dissapointment in the fall of 2006.

Let's hope 2008 is good to the PS3.

as I said in a different thread... I'll be adding this game to my collection.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

                  Disappointing.

I was really hoping this game would have a long storyline and not be a quick game. Unfortunately that doesn't seem the case.

I will just rent this now.

When I got the PS3 I put Lair, Warhawk, and Heavenly Sword on my list to buy.

Sword is now a rent, Lair will be a rent due to the controls, and Warhawk will be a rent due to only online play.

Seems like Sony is rushing to get these games out.

Still picking this one up. I used to regularly run through my favorite survival horror games (1-3 hour runs), so I can appreciate excellent "short" games.

uhh.. 6 hours? I thought it was already said that the game would be 12-15 hours long each play through

It could very well still be, whether the review has it right or not. If that review and earlier reports are right, then I assume the 12-15 hour length factors in cut scenes, difficulty level, average completion/restart ratio, etc.

As I said in the other thread, I was really ready to buy this till I read both reviews. Now it's a rental since it's so short. I was really looking forward to the whole "Goddess of War" type experience (long game, difficult at times, etc).

**** I can't believe that any developer would make a six hour game. That's crazy.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)
