For example in RDR, I seemed to have done one of the missions in backwards order, where I got the machine gun for West Dickens before Seth even mentioned anything about it, and they had just gone along with the story as if I had done the mission for Seth already.

That's why I'll have absolutely no problem with the way Mafia II is looking at creating the narrative, since I think it's nice to have those extremes to choose from.

On one hand you have Saints Row where you basically just go out and do anything you want, and then Mafia II works as a straight-forward action game, disguised as a free-roam game.

that didn't happen, The missions arent open all the time, you cant do the wes dickens mission before you get the gun, etc. thats why the names pop up after you complete certain missions. For instance in GTA 4 you run a mission for Manny, then as soon as you complete it, Elizabeta pops up on the Map, then if you run that mission, Manny might pop back up. The games are designed so that whatever you said happened, doesn't happen. You cant just make stuff up to fit your point.

Also, the Rockstar games are not meant to be run through mission after mission. Your not supposed to just run from mission to mission to mission. Your supposed to go run a mission or 2, then go kill some animals, track a bounty, etc then go do more missions.

its like if you run mission to mission it wont make sense sometimes cause you may have just completed a mission for someone, then you immediately go and do the next mission for that person, they interact like its the next day or something but in reality its only been 10 seconds since you left that person.

....I'm not making it up at all. I'm not dumb, I'm not new to how Rockstar's games work at all. And it wasn't a major plot point or anything, but it did happen.

I remember that I did the missions involving the explanation of the machine gun in different order, where it was just mentioned that they needed a machine gun for the stagecoach.

It wasn't anything gamebreaking.... just something that made the story a little less believable, and that's why I said I'd have no problem with Mafia taking a strict mission by mission, hold-your-hand approach to the story.

No need to call me a liar.

        Re: Mafia II (PS3/360)

I had stayed out of this thread all this time, the name "Mafia" just sounded so generic and didn't draw me in. Today I just said what the hell and peaked my head in and now I have another game that I have to eventually get to some day.

I personally always prefer a tighter, directed narrative over the pure open world style.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

1st of all go read both of your posts, you changed the story in the second post. Where did I call you a liar or dumb? I didn't, I just said that whatever you said happened wasn't possible and then you changed what you originally said. It doesn't matter anyway nor do I really care, I was just responding to what you said.

definitely getting this. The 50's setting is right up my alley. I hope they throw in a little rockabilly in the soundtrack.

                  Re: Mafia II (PS3/360)

I started playing today the old Mafia game again. I was amazed to find out that this game still looks decent. And also, the first Mafia game was the KING of the little things. For example: You lose the bullets left in the magazine if you reload before it's empty. And also, when you shoot - you can see all the bullets leftovers on the floor - they DON'T disappear, same with magazines that you throw away.

Hopefully, the new game keeps this tradition. The little things can be the difference between a good game and a great game.

By the way, the game will be released for PC as well, right?

By saying that I made up my story, you were implying that I'm a liar....

It's not a big deal. I may not have articulated myself very well the first time and made it sound bigger than it was. But I know what happened, and it was weird.

I don't want to derail the thread, no hard feelings

This is probably my most anticipated game for the rest of the calendar year.

A first day buy for sure.

I'm a sucker for open world + older setting.

I want to add to that some negative review. Mafia 1 had some of the worst shooting controls ever in a game. I'm sure the new Mafia will have better controls. Hell, even NBA 2K4's Isomotion was better than that...

It's not the aiming, it's the actual shooting mechanics. It justs gets stuck many times. And also if you're too close to some barrier it can't shoot, though you can get shot easily. And what's with those guns that you shoot 6-7 bullets into a guy's head and he wouldn't fall? WTF?!
I mean, I'm on the last level, but I don't have anyhting other than that gun that wouldn't kill anyone. And before you know it I'm out of ammo, and I can't pick any because I get shot...
I press shoot and the damn thing doesn't work. It works like 70% of the time. Maybe it's better to play it on the console, I might think about getting it for the XBOX.

                                The console port is trash.

I really don't remember any of those issues, but it has been almost 8 years.
