That's an excellent comparison. I played both and preferred L.A. Noire probably because there was less gun play. (I mean how many people can two outnumbered Mafia members realistically kill -- dozens, hundreds?)

I enjoyed the investigative aspects and trying to read people in L.A. Noire. I found that unique. The shooting aspects of Mafia II, I've played in a million games.

It's hard to recommend this game to my friends because a lot of them have kids. And you don't want the kids around when the F-bombs drop in Mafia II. It must have set a record.

      Yup, I'm unearthing this thread.

Just finished it today. I really enjoyed the whole experience. Few things here and there that bugged me, one being the camera at times and the checkpoint system at times.

As a whole, I really enjoyed the story and my jaunt through the game. If you haven't played it yet, def get on it. But, just because it is an "open world" don't expect GTA "open".

If you can not compare this to that, you'll love it. Also, thought the city layout, graphics and cinematics were great. Love blasting a 100 through the not to be named the Brooklyn Bridge.

Ok, I'm a made man now. Back to watching my Red Sox.

Edit: Oh, and if you find the magazines, you get some snoobs toooooo! Guns, cars, great music, beers, swearing and SNOOBS!

I desperately need a Next Gen Mafia game in my life. Mafia III would be awesome.... hell at this point I'd settle for a remastered Mafia II (never played 1). A LA Noire Sequel or something similar would work as well.

Personally, I'm more of a fan of games like those that are in real settings than all of these futuristic robot games.

I know there had been a little stuff out about mafia 3 but that was a while back and not sure if it was ever officially Confirmed

            Re: Mafia II (PS3/360)

I think both Mafia and LA Noire suffered from featuring an open world that simply provided a common backdrop and self-contained world. When compared to GTA there's "nothing to do" in each game's open map, but by the end of each game I felt the cities themselves were valuable characters.

Loved Mafia 2. Became extremely enveloped (sp?) in the story and setting.

Mafia 2 would have been better with a option to skip the driving and go straight to the mission. I don't see why every game doesn't do this as you lose nothing by adding either you like the feature and use or you don't and still drive. In the end everyone gets to play the game the way they like

I picked up a used copy of the game today at EB Games for $10.73, edge card helped with the price. It's the greatest hit's version so I get all the dlc that was released for it. I never got around to playing it the first time it was released so looking forward to it. I had been playing the demo lately so decided to pick it up.

Should I play on normal or hard? What is best?

I played on Normal. Really really enjoyed the game. Great story. Wasn't too hard but I had trouble in a few areas on Normal. For a game like this I find playing on Hard first time through ruins the story by having to restart things over and over again.

Rather play it rather clean but challenging on Normal and follow the story. Then at a point later in time go back at it on Hard. Don't forget to look for the SNOOBS!

Enjoy. I just beat it about a month ago. Couldn't put it down.

This is a bit of a bump, but I just found this funny. I killed a guy and his head gets caught inside of the bars on a gate/fence.

Finally picked this one up last week. What I most like about it, is the attention to details. The world is so alive, lots of little things happening all the time. The atmosphere is great, and overall the game is so well-done. Simulation driving mode FTW!

I have the Director's Cut edition with all the DLCs, so it will keep my busy for a while.
                              My Specs:

                              ZX Spectrum
                              CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
                              GPU: Monochrome display
                              RAM: 48 KB
                              OS: Sinclair BASIC
