    Re: Mafia II (PS3/360)

Yeah the actual narrative of Mafia II was perfect in terms of its length. I just wanted to absorb the city that they built a little more. Its just my style of playing, I love exploring open worlds and letting the details sink in. Its why I fall in love with games like Far Cry 2, GTA and Assassins Creed.

I finished Dog Days as well. I enjoyed it for what it was but I would never pay full price for it. I grabbed it new for $20 so I couldn't really complain. Games retail for $100 brand new in Australia so it was an absolute bargain for me.

Jesus. That's insane. Although I guess it's not like the prices in Canada/US are far off.

After beating this last night, I'm interested in taking a look at the first game. I know it's a lot better on the PC and you don't need the best computer to run it, but does anyone know if you need a controller or can I just go with keyboard/mouse?

We've had the same game prices since the 90's, they haven't adjusted at all. It hasn't been so bad but now that the Australian dollar is actually worth more than the US one it would be insanity to buy games anywhere but online for us. In the past $60 US wasn't so far off $100 Australian but now I can buy games online for similar prices to you guys. I just hope our dollar stays where it is!

I also want to play the first Mafia. I don't have a gaming PC though. Only a laptop without a graphics card. And I really don't want to play the original Xbox version because apparently its a horrible port. Has anyone played the console ports? Is it worth playing through just for the story?

Just got this for 75% off on Steam. Coincidentally I watched the Godfather trilogy over the holiday so I'm psyched to play through this.

This game was great. I wish you could go into more stores and that the stores offered more customization especially the clothes besides just different colors.

I was refering to the 2nd game being about 3 hours long.
Maybe they cut out the stuff in this for pacing and to keep the story going.

I know I'm late on this but, I'm playing through this now and having a blast. I currently on Chapter 8.

                Spoiler

As for the rest of the game, there is a little bit too much driving for my taste but, the it's not that hard so that makes up for it. I do prefer the driving in this game over GTA IV but, I hated driving in GTA IV. In this game it's not bad at all but, still a bit too much. Other than that, I've got no complaints.

Canes I would definitely grab the PC version if you have the gear to run it. There is no multiplayer so Xbox Live doesn't really matter. I'm sure those opening winter levels look absolutely gobsmackingly beautiful at a maxed out resolution and frame rate. Sadly I don't have a gaming PC but the 360 version was more than ok for my purposes.
I'm with ya on that. Why not push it back a little while longer to at least get some of that stuff in? Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the game, but I look at the stuff that they cut from the game and I feel like I got the short end of the stick.

Yep fingers crossed Mafia 3 turns out to be the real deal with a city that beckons you to explore and immerse yourself in it, as well as featuring a great cinematic narrative. I don't see any reason why they need to be mutually exclusive.

So I picked this up after doing a ton of research on it and playing the demo. I was gonna wait till the 2 used and get 1 free sale at gamestop. But after reading this thread friday I just couldn't wait anylonger and I had a giftcard and it was just 25$. I started it up and so far so good.

I beat the game over the weekend and I have to say that it's my second favorite non-sports game of the year (behind RDR). I'm not really that big on open-world/sand box games. I'm more of a linear game guy so this was actually more up my alley.

I'm on chapter 10 of this game and i'm loving this game so far. It took me some time to get use to the driving as to start with I was always running into other cars and having the to run from the cops. I did a ton of reasearch on the game so I knew not to expect the greatest game ever like uncharted or RDR. As I've got deeper in the story and the missions got more action it's just been fun. I havent did a lot of time looking for playboy magz just a few here and there.

I didn't think either of the Jimmy ones were. I never got the Joe one though, it looked pretty good though.

Joe's is the one I was hoping is good because hes such a big part of the story. I didnt know how much faith I should put into the reviews since most had this game rated lower then what I thought they should.

Also yall wasnt lying about chapter 14 I was ready to start hurting small animals last night when I was playing it.
