    Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)

I've been enjoying the game, but it is feeling a little more transparent and limiting at times. At the beginning it seemed unique and different but now (on disc 2 in the 360 version) the gameplay quirks that seemed so unique at first are getting a little redundant and very "gamey" to me.

Still enjoying it, but not as much as I was.

I think that is my main complaint about the game. Really would love for the next one in the series to have mistakes be made where you don't catch the right guy.

I would give the game an 8.75 or 9. I don't think its quite GOTY status for me, but a very enjoyable game nonetheless. I'll have to see with the rest of the games that come out this year.

I'm in the somewhat not satisfied group myself. The cases are great, but there is a ton of repetitiveness in searching for the clues and the chasing (got damn does everyone run as soon as a they see a cop). The one case I found really satisfying as far as searching for clues was:

            Spoiler

Love the interrogations and I hope this game gives us a good police/detective game. We've had plenty of bad guy games, I'd love to see some games on the side of the law. Maybe Police Quest games will make a return.

That's just all of the preorder bonuses, I think. I got the Sharpshooter Suit/Gun by buying it from BBY. That being said, I can't wait to play those cases.

It's out, the Rockstar Pass gives you all the preorder, plus 2 future cases. It's a good deal for 10 bucks.

There's also a Piano Suit for free on XBL.

I think you're right. I'm still sitting on the "Consul's Car" case and the Broderick suit because of the Store being down.

Anyway, there are definitely things they can do and add to make the next game better, but I'm not disappointed in LA Noire at all. Its a fun and very enjoyable and to be honest, I'm having more fun and liking the story and game better the second time through. All the recurrences and subtle links that they created in the world adds to the immersion of the open-world. Its a great basis for what I hope is either the start of a genre or, at the very least, a franchise for Team Bondi.

Some things I think would be cool for this and I know others have mentioned some of these as well:

Informants - Roy Earle had one, but I could understand why Cole didn't (yet) since he was a new guy. It would still be cool to see what kind of info you could get from your informants to help you out on cases/leads.
Real Consequences - I kind of enjoyed getting bitched at by the captains when you ****ed up and charged the wrong guys. Those scenes were nicely done, but they didn't really follow them up with actual repercussions. I mean, if you mess up bad then you have to do like one or two easy, minor cases to build your cred back up with the department. Also, there should be some kind of consequence for accusing the suspect of lying and then backing out of it when you find out you don't have any evidence. Maybe take away the doubt option.
Police HQ - It would be cool on cases to get some feedback from your captain. Maybe throw a suspect in jail first before hauling him into the interrogation room to "soften" them up first.
Lawyers - I'm not sure how the 40s interrogation worked. I'm just going to assume that initial interrogations could be done without lawyers for the sake of the game, but having to go through lawyers, especially for the more high profile crimes (ie: homicide) would add a nice layer. It would also add to the difficulty, too.

Personally, I would love for Team Bondi to make a PI game where the player had their own PI business and had some kind of economy system associated with that (ie: paying informants, bribes, paying for leads, etc).

As I've said many times, I love LA Noire. As a first attempt, its pretty stellar, but I hope they continue to build on this foundation and flesh the experience out even more.
I would also like to see the court cases after you accuse someone of committing the crime, maybe have you go to the stand and testify or even make you play as the prosecutor and use the same kind system as the interrogations.

I haven't said this often but this game is a step forward for gaming in general and if more companies start using the capturing technology, you'll definitely see games taken seriously by actors and the rest of Hollywood.

OK, I just finished the game. Here are my thoughts on the gameplay (both of these are going to be long). The game itself played real well, but there are quite a bit of things that make it short of a complete game for me. First of all, the lack of a true free roam really hurts. I don't mind that you can go and do different things, but I was hoping that there would be random instances of crime that Phelps would have to solve. A bank robbery, a stolen car chase, stuff that was kinda like Red Dead Redemption.

Second, the lack of a multiplayer also hurts. I know that there are some that believe that you can't have a good single player story with online features, but that's a baloney point. Having something like cops and robbers or a team deathmatch online would enhance the gameplay value. Yeah, it's not GTA, but that shouldn't be something that pigeon-holds the game.

The last thing I have with the game is that although it's fun to search through everything and drive everywhere in the beginning, it becomes a chore just to see the story. The story is wonderful, but sometimes the clues and following false leads drags it down.

As for the story (don't read until you complete the game)...

                            Spoiler

With all of this said, I think I made a good purchase and will probably try to find the hidden stuff. I'm glad I bought the game new and would do it again if I went back in time. However, these things listed above prevent it from being Game of the Year. We'll see how DLC works out.

Very well said, and I agree with everything you critiqued. The more and more I play this it seems to be dragging on and on. I would like some type of MP option. Cops and robbers type stuff would be awesome.

If they made a multiplayer system that made sense like what Ubisoft did with Assassin's Creed, then sure but the belief that games like this need multiplayer or they aren't worth keeping around is holding the industry back.
