I think that article brings up a lot of good points that game's really don't address dynamically within the story. He brings up the "masking" of controls (ie: not being able to shoot friendlies), but other than developers of these open-world games basically let you run free as if you're completely outside of the story and game-world. It makes sense and with everybody approaching it the same way, you don't notice. It will be interesting to see how the first game will include those actions into a dynamic story. I mean, it would be awesome to be free-roaming while playing GTA and you shoot up some rival or even an alliance gang and that causes some **** to happen in the actual story.
His take on LA Noire is pretty good, too and I agree with him. Sure, there are some "bad" things, but I think the good things far outweigh what negatives there are. Considering that this is the developer's first game, I think that's a good sign for this series.
