    Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)

I'm really thinking about buying this. I'm not too much into renting games and I don't mind buying a game, beating it, and there having it sit in my dvd/game case. Here's my questions that will determine whether or not I buy it.

    1) Does what you do or not do affect the game much? In other words do the criminals get away or any other bad things happen if you don't solve the crime, find all the clues, etc? If not it would just seem as though you're going through the motions, if the end result is going to be the same regardless.

    2) What is the plan for future DLC's? Are they going to release a ton of new cases or just a few? When a DLC comes out is it just one large case or are there multiple cases in a DLC?

Have u played heavy rain or mafia 2?

I think there is replay value to this the 2nd time even if you do know how the case will turn out. You can play with the rumble on/off, change the color to black/white. I would just wait a month or two inbetween the play through that way you forget some of the details about the cases. Also your have your trophies and you get a rating at the end of every case and it tells you how many ? you got wrong.

You can buy the rockstar pass for 12$ that has like 4 cases, badge prusit challenge and few other minor things. Thats all the DLC they plan on releasing according to the fb site. The cases are the ones from pre order and then one from june and another thats coming out in july.

What about whether or not what we do affects cases? How does the job we do affect the outcome? Does it at all?

The main story continues at the end of each case no matter what, but you get different cut scenes depending on how well you did.

In-case, you might miss a question early that causes you to miss a key piece of evidence you need to get the right guy. So, to get the full story, you'd have to get each question right as you go along. You can also completely miss interviews and persons of interest if you're not careful, so the game is somewhat dynamic in that sense.

I think it's a good balance because sometimes you spend over an hour on a case, and to have to re-do it right away would kind of turn me off.

My advice to someone starting off would be to take notes on all interviews as you go along. This will make things easier on you the second time through and will increase your chances of triggering all the "correct" scenes.

Well, can you get the "wrong guy" in different cases? It just seems to me that if you are looking to solve a crime, do all the wrong things, and the crime still gets solved, what's the point? I'm sure that's not all there is to it but I want to be sure that I am rewarded for being a good "detective" during the game before I buy it. What's the benefit of getting the correct scene?

You could get every question wrong but still end up at the same conclusion.

And that's why I haven't played this game since launch week, just became very repetitive.
Great map of LA, amazing voice work but just not open ended enough.

                  Just one,maybe two.
Your benefit is getting a good rating at the end of the case. They vary 1-5 stars. You also have to keep damages down to get a good rating.

It's true. I played through the whole thing but it was pretty poor at times. Way over hyped game. Especially here at OS. The first few days after release everyone was ecstatic, but you can tell it's died off in a major way since then. Other than the new facial technology, the game didn't do a whole lot new or innovative.

                      I know what you're saying. No, it's not a police "sim". It's a story-based game.

The benefit in-case is that you get the full story, all clues, etc. If you get questions correct, you get additional information that can lead to more questions or new persons of interest.

I think it's a great effort for the first one. And now that the initial wow factor is gone, it's a game that I can see myself picking up once a month for a few hours and really enjoying. Like I said before, I can't wait to see what they can do with the next one.

This game has yet to get boring and repitive to me bc every case is diffrent with its own story and new people in them. Its like a season long TV show like the closer.

That's the way I would probably feel if I bought it. My ONLY hang up is that your decisions and interactions seem meaningless. I'd like to know that I'm screwing something up if I miss a piece of evidence or go after the wrong person.

Dude just rent the game. No matter what specifics you are looking for, this game is definitely worth a 5 dollar rental to try out. There are some great elements in the game and it is enjoyable for what its worth.

I'm only on like my 4th real case so thats why I didnt respond to your ? about it earlier bc I dont know as much about that as others. Its a really fun game and your are doing the right think about gathering all your info and expections before you buy it.

Have you played heavy rain or mafia 2? the city and era is similar to mafia 2 and the gameplay kinda like heavy rain (the closest i can think of).

That's the only problem I have with this game.
For me the best part about video games is that I can lose up if I don't do it right. This game kind of takes the ability to lose away from you, unless you die.
