        Got the new GI in the mail today. Some info...
        • The games story will be all-new and take place two years after the last movie. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis are writing the script.
        • Players will take on the role of a new recruit hired as an "experimental weapons technician".
        • An ancient evil envelops the city shortly after you are hired. Waves of new ghosts, including a few old rivals.
        • Game will use an RE4-style camera angle. A big reason for this is because your proton pack will act as your HUD - health, weapon charge, and "slam".
        • GI says the controls have a distinct fishing feel to them, which the developer said was their goal. Tap of the d-pad deploys the the trap.
        • The damage you do to the environments (like the Sedgwick Hotel) is converted into one big bill that goes directly to the city's insurance company. You earn bonuses for higher tallies and you get to piss off Peck in the process. (Walter Peck, which William Atherton will be returning to play the role as)
        • Game runs on a proprietary engine called Infernal. They want to push the envelope, especially physics, which is a reason they decided to write their own engine. The engine can accurately simulate weight variations. An estimation is the engine will be able to simulate 1,000 objects at any given time while still running everything lightning fast, self shadowing, and slick character models.

        • GI talks a little about some of the new weapons. One being the slime gun. You shoot a long rope of green goop towards an object then fire the remaining end at something else, which will then pull the two objects together.
        • Wrangling beam is the polar opposite of the proton beam, it freezes ghosts and has a shotgun-like secondary fire, which will shatter them. It's not wise to use this on every ghost, because you only earn money for upgrades if you trap them.
        • Developers are working on a style system ("slam") for how you trap the ghosts.
        • Stay Puft Marshmallow Men and Ecto-1s will be scattered on the stages, which will unlock achievements, interviews, and other stuff.
        • PKE meter will be used to find out where to go next and to scan enemies to gain info on them.
        • Teammates will revive you and each other. There will be plenty of times where your on your own, so don't get used to this.
        • The old converted firehouse will serve as your hub, where you be able to interact with everybody. You will be able to slide down the fire pole.
        • Annie Potts has agreed to do the voice work for secretary Janine.
        • The developers are still working on an appropriate consequence/awesome effect for the crossing streams.
        • While epic in scale, the Stay Puft Marshmallow fight is low on the totem pole compared to other fights later in the game.

              Forgot to mention the article says multiplayer is still under construction for the 360, PS3, and PC version of the game. Also, the game is coming to the Wii and PS2 with a cartoon-styled version of Ghostbusters. Story line will apparently be the same, but the main focus is multiplayer. 4 player co-op via splitscreen and a Halo 3 style competitive mode. There's a mode where players will battle it out in a ghosts versus Ghostbusters free for all. Ghosts will be able to phase through walls and stuff and can also sneak up behind players and scare them, reducing their max health. Busters are equipped with standard proton packs, traps, and each one has special abilities.

              I don't really care about the versus stuff, but hopefully we see some co-op for the 360, PS3, and PC. No co-op would be quite a bummer.

                      Maybe it's because I didn't grow up loving the movies but I don't see how this game won't get boring and reptitive.

                            On another note, I hope the fight with Stay-Puft doesn't have you get hit with only random globs of marshmallow. I hope you're fighting off other monsters and such.

                                Simply put, Ghostbusters is a smart marriage of design and technology, and at this early stage is on track to not only capture the tone and feel of Ghostbusters, but to let you strap on a Proton Pack and live it. Our brief hands-on, taking down Slimer in the Banquet Room, confirmed that wielding a Proton Pack is as cool as you'd imagine; powerful and unstable - a little like having an unlicensed nuclear accelerator strapped to your back strangely enough. The 'wrangling and trapping' mechanics work well too – tugging and slamming Slimer around the room with the capture beam is great fun, as is trying to manoeuvre him over to the trap.

                                About the only disappointment that came out of the trip was the indication that, while the team is "still evaluating the possibility," it's unlikely the game will have co-op throughout the campaign. According to Drew, if the team were to go away from co-op, the rationale "would be that we so much want the experience to be you joining the Ghostbusters for the first time, and all the other characters are so indelibly that character, so I guess we would have to have two new guys as the Ghostbusters recruits… that bakes back down what our core resolution is… you get to be a Ghostbusters but at the same time you get to experience and see the Ghostbusters interacting the way they are." Personally, we'd be more than happy to pretend to be Bill Murray in this game.
