Re: Street Fighter IV (360/PS3/PC)
I was having the same problem until last night. You just have to spend a lot of time practicing. Spend time training and going through the survival mode. Practice your core moves, supers, and ultras especially.
It feels good to finally start stringing some wins together. I haven't arrived by any stretch of the imagination, but I have improved a lot over the last 48 hours or so.Comment

Great fights though. Glad I can punish that arrow now. Your defense is great, but if you can counter-attack and zone Cammy, she loses some of her advantage. Real good fights, man.

Re: Street Fighter IV (360/PS3/PC)
1. Execution: Learn a few moves and combos with ONE character.
2. Defense: Learn to block and avoid throws. Defense keeps you alive, so don't be risky. Be conservative early on. You'll make people impatient and risky if you learn great defense. While you work on your D, focus on precise execution.
3. Offense. Once you can keep yourself alive for longer than 20 secs(which isn't easy against some people), now you can mount an attack. The moves that you've learned all have certain advantages. It's your job to press those advantages. Look at the moves and see what they have to offer. For instance, the Hadoken is long range. The shoryuken is great anti-air. The hurricane kick can go through fireballs. So start setting your opponent up to be on the wrong end of these moves, along with that one combo you've MASTERED in rule number 1. Strong characters like Ryu, Balrog and Sagat don't need to hit an opponent a milion times to win the fight.
4. Mind games. This is a little more advanced. An early mind game is Hadoken, Hadoken, Shoryuken. Why is this a mind game? Because the opponent is being forced to jump by your pressure. You don't intend to throw hadokens all day. You intend to frustrate them into making mistakes. The more you play, the more you can work on your mind games. Throws go a long way towards breaking defense, and playing mind games. Don't be afraid of a little judo.Comment

Re: Street Fighter IV (360/PS3/PC)
To control an area of the screen/stage. I'll explain.
Me (Rufus) vs. Mo(Cammy)
If we have the entire stage to operate, she has the advantage, because she's quick, and has anti-airs. This means that if my jumping is predictable, she's going to kick me to my blubbery demise. So how do I solve this?
I cut off the screen. Why?
Because if I'm close, I don't have to jump to get close or play offense. Then I have other moves that I can use. Unpredictability is a problem, because now her anti-air changes into a liability. If she does her Cannon Spike and I don't happen to be jumping, she may end up eating a big combo as a result.
That fear is to my advantage. Now I can go in and attack, pressure, throw and have my way with her until she is frustrated or dead. This isn't a guaranteed win, but the advantages are all in my favor, since Rufus' specialty is offense.
Different characters have different zones and methods of staying in those zones, and keeping their opponents in them as well.Comment

I can't get down a single combo with anyone. It's so hard for me to lace the buttons together correctly and remember what I'm doing each time.Comment

Don't laugh at me guys... =/
I am a rookie when it comes to fighting games. I haven't played them in years. I don't know what an ex move or a charge or any of that mubo jumbo is. I don't know why you would cancel a move to do this or anything.
Like that one guy from the Mexican Food Network... I looked at some of his moves and I have no idea how to do them or what the symbols even meant.
I dunno too much!
Don't feel too bad. It's only a game after all!
My problem is finding enough time to play. And with The Show coming out next week, SF4 will probably be on the back burner for a while. Still, I am so grateful to the nice people here and those first-rate tutorials that Born has been kicking out. Great stuff!NCAA: Michigan Wolverines
MLB: St. Louis Cardinals
NHL: St. Louis Blues
NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers

Re: Street Fighter IV (360/PS3/PC)
If you're having trouble with combos, you just need to dial it back and simplify even more, until you get into the flow of the game. A real simple combo that pays off is jumping Roundhouse/low Roundhouse.
It's just two button presses, and it knocks your opponent to the ground. Even vets use this combo at certain ranges. Once they are on the ground, you have the advantage. Eventually, this opens up to more complex gameplay. It's almost like basketball. You gotta stay within your game early on if you want to be competitive. If you have no 3 pointer, step inside. If you can't dribble, out hustle them and get garbage buckets.
Same thing in Street Fighter. If you can't do a super combo, don't worry about it. Hard punches and kicks hurt plenty, especially with a guy like Sagat. Stick to that, but concentrate on your timing, and minimize mistakes. Don't throw out silly moves. Don't rush the match. Really skilled players can play like the Lakers, but if you're still working on your offense, sometimes you have to play like the Spurs. You'd be shocked how effective a steady diet of Fierce and Roundhouse blows can be.Comment

u know what's great about Daigo? He'll let you win a round just so he can study you bit by bit... then he just UNLEASHES on you on the final rounds.. it's amazing. Watching him on the sticks, his hands are faster than my eyes... and his eyes are faster than my handshttp://www.myspace.com/phillthegenesis
