Took me forever to beat that game. The worst part was you could run out of lives then have to start the whole game over. Add to that the fact that my Genesis was prone to freezing I probably put more time into beating that game than any other. Finally did figure out the formula for beating the end, although it took many play throughs.

Edit: I still love that game.

I actually beat every single NES Ninja Gaiden. I LOVED that series. I can still hum the music from when you die in NG2.

I know I'm late to the party but this deserves its props.

As for games I can't beat, basically any FPS on a non-easiest difficulty. All those old NES games, I can't even remember whether I beat them or not, but I probably couldn't beat most of the games mentioned in this thread. I'm not really that good I guess...

I think every system I've owned "owned" me by having a game I couldn't beat but the few that stick out the most:

Atari 2600 (hand me down) - Chuck Norris Superkicks

Commodore 64 (also hand me down) - Nightmare on Elm St.

Nes - Bayou Billy

SNES - Phantom 2040

Oh boy. I'm 18 now so I have hazy memories of those older systems but I remember being so excited when I got Sega Genesis for Christmas. Me and my dad played the hell out of Road Rash 2 (probably our all-time favorite) and never beat it. I could aslo never beat Comixzone, although I did make it to the big boss once. I also wanna say Freedom Fighters or whatever that game was.

If it counts, I have never legitmately manually played (not simmed) half of a season's worth of games on a MLB game and won the World Series. I play on hard, realistic difficulties and I just couldn't ever do it. I think I won the SB in Madden 03 with the Eagles, but on Easy or something.

I swear I hated that game. Red eyed all the time swearing up a storm and still trying not to lose my armor. Then came the double jump which frustrated me more when I mistimed jumps.

Zelda Ocarina of Time - I was about 7-9 years old when playing, I could never beat the water temple. I am gonna go back sometime and play through the game and try to do every task. I think I still have one of the orignal strategy guides

Mike Tyson's Punchout - I could get past everyone else but didn't have the finger reflexes to take out Tyson. He usually nailed me in those first 90 seconds and I didn't have much left after that.

Rocky - this was a Sega Genesis game where you had Apollo, Rocky, Mr. T (I think) and Drago. It was crappy as a multi-player game since none of the characters were even. For one player, Apollo was an easy beating but Drago was impossible to even knock down. Me and my two brothers all tried against him and could never win. One time I had him woozy on the ropes and we were all screaming that we could take him down but it never happened. Only 1 time did I even get him in trouble!
