Probably so they can stretch it out with DLC. $$$$ talks.

They did say that it wouldn't have co-op, so maybe it'll be some death-match or "horde-mode" type of stuff....even though I rather have that time spent on the single player campaign.

I'll just add this to my list of games I'll "eventually" get. I never should have got RE5 when I did. Just no time to do much gaming at all anymore. I should have a good amount of games I to get once the real world eases up a bit.
To many other things the $ needs to go towards. I'll get games used and once they get cheap. That's my gaming life now for a bit....

Re: BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams

Just got my copy of GI in the mail. I don't know, i'm not any more re-assured than I was before after reading the piece. Sorry if I don't treat this as a spoiler, but it's the subject of a big magazine article that anybody can read. Stop here if you aren't interested in learning the framework of the game.

A little sister has grown up and and returned to Rapture as a Big Sister to rule and "restore" some sort of working order among Rapture's inhabitants (mainly splicers.....the very people who used to attack her and rob her of her Adam when she was a little sister). She's kidnapped and brought little girls to Rapture to fill the role of the lost little sisters who will once again get the Adam flowing (for God knows what reason). While the Big Sister is not inherently evil, she is the game's primary "villain" who will take notice as you begin killing Big Daddy's and taking their little sisters for yourself.....either to harvest or adopt as your own. The more you kill, the more Big Sister will tire of your act and begin hunting you because you're a threat to the order of things that she has established. I have to say, not once in my playthroughs of Bioshock did I ever want to play as a Big Daddy. If anything, I simply wanted to observe them. Even when you do play as one for a short time, I couldn't wait to get out of that suit and get rid of that small viewport.

It's like 2K Marin conducted a bunch of focus groups with gamers who simply didn't "get it". You wanted multiplayer? Ok, we'll give you mulitplayer! You want to play as a souped up Big Daddy? OK! We'll design the game around that too! I always found the whining about no multiplayer in Bioshock to be laughable at best. Not ever shooter has to be about multiplayer frag-fests. Typical modern American gamers with dwindling attention spans who can't appreciate a good story and atmosphere.

On a positive note, it would seem that the past of Rapture will be somewhat revealed through the Big Sister's memories....at least that's how the article made it seem. Radio logs are back as are characters like Dr. Tenenbaum. So hopefully, we'll get a solid taste of Rapture's past.

Color me quite skeptical at this point. I really hope i'm wrong, as I LOVED Bioshock.

Why? I'm American and i'm calling it like I see it. I just don't see how anybody who appreciates a quality story and who takes stock of the the surrounding atmosphere in a game can play Bioshock and say it's lacking without a multiplayer component.

Re: BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams

So obviously most of us here wanted this game to be and prequel and are disappointed that it isn't one. Well, I started digging through the info avaible so far and I found an interesting statement released by 2K marin. This was from back in October.

“BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams is part of a prequel and at the same time is a sequel, so you’re kind of close on the interpretation of the trailer. The rising replica of Rapture can represent something to do with this or something part of a bigger surprise that everyone has to wait and see to play.”

Hm, I hope this is true and that this game actually ties in with the first's story in an interesting way because as several of us have shared recently it seems that this sequel is looking to be a money-grab of sorts and not a worthy addition to the Bioshock literature.

Now, as you play as the first big daddy in this game, he will have been in Rapture for quite some time, and it seems that prequel elements to the first game could tie in with that character.

Hopefully, that combined with the memories of the Little Sister as the GI article alluded to. I just hope they have a plausible explanation for not only how the Little Sister came back to Rapture and converted herself into a Big Sister (which was an intensive surgical procedure outlines in the 1st game), but also why she would want to come back and provide order to a Rapture community that appears to be 99% splicers. I just hope it asll makes sense and feels like a genuine part of the story.

Re: BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams

This Thursday GTTV will world premiere the first gameplay footage of BioShock 2. See the Big Sister in action, Thursday at 12:30 on Spike
No Longer subtitled "Sea of Dreams"

A brief recap of the comedy of errors surrounding the suspected subtitle for Bioshock 2 -- developer 2K Marin revealed the Sea of Dreams moniker in the sequel's debut trailer, then confirmed that it had dropped the subtitle last month, then de-confirmed that confirmation a week later, then suggested it doesn't know what its own game is called during GDC. However, 2K's Charlie Sinhaseni might have just told IGN the (hopefully) final word on the matter -- according to him, the game will simply be called Bioshock 2: Electric Boogaloo. No, wait -- just Bioshock 2.

Sinhaseni explained the confusion -- 2K apparently gives titles to all its trailers, and the teaser for the sequel (which appeared in the PS3 version of Bioshock the First) was titled (you guessed it) Sea of Dreams. The developers considered making it an official subtitle to the game, but have ultimately decided to follow the "title + number" format that's worked so well for Madden throughout the years. We hope this is the last chapter in this confusing saga, though it doesn't really matter. An aquatic, morally ambiguous FPS/RPG by any other name would smell just as sweet.

Posted by a moderator on the BioShock 2 forum.

BioShock 2 cover story in German magazines (PC Games/Play3)

                        • Bioshock 2 will have much more (facial) animations for it's characters, especially the Little Sisters.
                        • Tannenbaum is indeed back and during a gameplay presentation, Tennenbaum wakes up the player.
                        • According to Melissa Miller, returning to Rapture wont be boring because of three reasons: 1. You can go outside of Rapture, 2. You will mainly visit places, you only heard of in B1 and 3. a secret aspect, she wont mention.
                        • Compared with the Big Daddy in BioShock 1, you will be faster and your field of view will be better.
                        • Vita Chambers are back, but when you respawn there, the health of the enemies (e.g. Big Daddies) might be regenerated for a certain amount.
                        • There are more greytones added to your moral choices. So there is not just black and white. Moral choices are also integrated into the game mechanics and not just to the endings.
                        • Splicers will now search for cover, jump off balconies and use their enviroment. They can also catch grenades and throw them back.
                        • The Big Sister will change during the story.
                        • Guessing from artworks and screenshots, Splicers look more ill. One had more claw like fingers, eczemas...etc.
                        • Concept art showed Rapture Metro Station North, one small screenshot showed a hall in Fontaine Futuristics.
                        • In an interview with Jordan Thomas, he said: "Ryan and Fontaine were a part of the big ideologic war, which made Rapture fall. While the story of this characters is somehow over, they are still important to show people whats up with Rapture...."
                        • Jordan also said that the player "creates" alot of corpses. The Little Sisters may show which are worth to be harvested.

                          Gameplay description from that magazine.

"The black screen fades into a clear view, you hear music from the 50s. Before your sight is totally okay, you hear the walky-talky voice of Tennenbaum: "Wake up". Now you see that you were lying in knee deep water, inside a small hall of Rapture. You stand up and discover the drill on your right arm. You break through some wooden stuff and step into a group of Splicers. There is a fight and some of them flee. The Big Sister quickly appears, fast, agile, but still slim and somehow fragile. With a screaming sound, she jumps at a panorama window and you hear some strange scratches. The Big Sister is trying to break the panorama window! And she succeeded. Water masses make their way into the room until its completely flooded. As a Big Daddy, you walk on the silent and cold bottom of the sea, outside of Rapture. You can see a Splicer through an intact window, but he pays no attention. Again, you listen to Tennenbaum's voice: She explains that the Big Sister is a grown up Little Sister, which turned herself into a Big Daddy like being. She carries little girls from the island to Rapture, to make them harvest Adam. You step through an air lock and return to the inner world of Rapture. You stumble over a Little Sister, who welcomes you as "Mister B." You choose to protect her and carry her on your shoulder until she finds an "Angel". She climbs off to harvest, but then Splicers come. They rush onto the Little Sisters, equipped with pistols, grenades and wrenches. You fight against the Splicers with a firestream (Incinerate) plasmid, the rivet gun, close combat pushes with the gun and of course with the drill. Some fight later, the whole earth is shattering - the Big Sister appears on a balcony. "The Big Sister doesn't want you to play with me!" the Little Sister screams. The Big Sister lands right in front of you, throws some chairs at you and after a direct hit, you go to the ground. The screen fades into black - the BioShock 2 logo appears. End of presentation."
