Re: Tom Clancy's HAWX
I honestly can't tell if you even read what I posted...
Skill based and tactical are not the same thing at all. Both of those things also don't mean "deep" obviously. With that said, while the two games you mentioned were tactical, they weren't deep. GRAW also completely went away from its roots and is no longer skill based. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 had numerous issues that prevented it from surpassing the first one. Both RB6V's were decent but they were missing that something that kept you coming back while Ghost Recon Summit Strike craps all over the new Ghost Recons and Summit Strike came out in like 2002 or some crap.
Every shooter that comes out these days are noob friendly, and most are shallow. Many of them combine the first two flaws and come out unfinished on top of it(Confrontation).
All I was saying is that I hope that HAWX is deep(gameplay wise and feature-wise) and skill based(ie there should be a huge gap between someone that is good at gaming and has played the game for months and someone that just started playing the game a month ago and is generally not good at videogames)Comment

Re: Tom Clancy's HAWX
Demo coming this week
As the late, great, Kenny Loggins once sang, "Ride into the Danger Zone!" What? Kenny Loggins isn't dead? Awkward. Moving on... On February 11, a demo for Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. will hit the Xbox Live Marketplace for Live Gold members.
The demo, which tracks experience and includes three unlockable fighters to test drive fly, allow up to four Mavericks to play cooperatively. It sports two missions for the upcoming air-combat game: In Operation - Off Certification, one of the game's training missions that showcases maneuvers and tactics used throughout the adventure, and In Operation - Glass Hammer, another training mission that teaches pilots how to blow stuff up in the air and on land. Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. lands in stores this March.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Tom Clancy's HAWX
I just played about 20 minutes of it. It definitely has the Clancy mark, and you'll notice that right off the bat. There's two missions to choose from in the demo with one being a training mission. That mission walks you through the very basic controls this game has: LT/Brake, RT/Accelerate, LB and RB is your yaw. Looks like the face buttons control pursuit of target. A/Fire, Y/switch target, B/guns and X is a pursuit help button.
When given the prompt, you can hit X and a trail of blue triangles light up and lead you to your target. If you are being pursued, you can hit X and a trail of red triangles light up for you to follow and use to map your way out of the plane pursuing you. This is a very arcade-like feature that you almost would expect from Ubisoft. Whether or not you decide to use it is your call. Also, you can trail a missle by holding your A button down after firing.
There are 3 views. Third person, First person and Cockpit. You cycle those views by pressing in on the right stick. There is a 4th view called limiter off. what that does it puts you almost on a pursuit view of your plane. I like it. It's a very smooth flowing view that centers itself when you level your plane. Very nice.
The graphics (to me) are great, very smooth framerate. Buildings are nicely structured in 3D, but not all of the landscape is 3 dimensional. Clouds, water, sky look great.
I didn't play much of Ace Combat, but I'd say it's similar but with a very heavey Ghost Recon flavor. The second mission is pretty intense with commands being shouted at you, changing often. You have a lot going on and the action gets pretty busy.
This is not heavy on simulation, but with all that's going on, I don't think I'd want it to be. That second mission gets pretty busy.
You can also play online but I have not done that yet.
First impression: 8.5 out of 10. The smoothness of the game and very niely done presentation is what stood out. Very much along the lines of GRAW with the overlays and quality music. Be sure to try the demo.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment
