As the guys above stated, play it first on Easy mode. Yeah, you wont' feel as challenged but you'll be able to get through the game quicker. After you finish that up, take it online and play the various modes there for a while. Weeks/months later go back in and play it on Normal or Hard mode.

I myself am not very good at shooters, but this is the route I take with these games, especially ones like this where I enjoy the gameplay, just not the difficulty of it. After I've better acclimated myself to the game, I find it much easier & a fair challenge to go back in and restart campaign modes at higher difficulties.

I think Volition realizes people play the open world games to have the funnest time possible and not for the challenge. Thats why the trophies/achievements can be unlocked on easy.

Agreed with all above, play it on easy, trust me, the last few missions are still difficult enough. I went from getting frustrated about 3/4 through on medium, played the final 1/4 on easy, game was so much better. Just a great, great game.

Yeah, it's a great great game when you can play it like was intended. Obviously this game won't have the controls and whatnot necessary to be a COW type cover shooter. That's where the easy difficulty helps, you can blow up buildings, use the sledge, just be awesome.

Is the game pretty short when going through it on easy? I'm all for playing a lower difficulty if it's more fun but I also want value for money and don't want to blow through a game in a few hours as well.

Shorter in only that it's easier, not repeating missions as much. The game is fun for it's physics engine and then the overall storyline.

I'm surprised you guys are finding the game so hard.

Everybody is playing on normal difficulty, right?

As long as you're getting the right upgrades to your weapons and body armor, the soldiers they throw at you don't stand much of a chance.

And when the bad guys outnumber you by a ton, it's usually pretty easy to just run away, find a vehicle and take off.

Fun game for sure, but I doubt I'll get the DLC. Glad I picked it up for $40 at the Newegg sale.

Eurogamer hands-on: Red Faction: Guerrilla - Demons of the Badlands

All told, THQ reckons a competent player with a lot of RFG experience should be able to complete Demons of the Badlands in between four and five hours, assuming they don't go after all the collectables. Less experienced players, or those who want to mine Mars' newest playground for all its secrets, can hope to spend considerably longer in its company. The difficulty has also be adjusted subtly upwards, so while there are still four skill settings, each is proportionally more difficult than the main game. The idea is that if you finished RFG, you'll be up for the challenge, and if you didn't, you can still adjust for your needs. The story's separation in time neatly allows either group to understand it in or out of context.

At a fairly standard 800 Microsoft Points or the equivalent of USD 9.99 on PSN, it sounds and looks like a compelling slab of extra content. We've all been fooled by DLC promises before, of course, and would advise anyone to hang around for our review closer to the 13th August release date, but THQ appears to have learned the lessons of its Saints Row 2 DLC adventures and wants to make the most of Red Faction's continuing popularity with more of a best-of in a new setting than a simple bolt-on vignette. Downloadable content hasn't always done well by looking backwards - Operation: Anchorage, anyone? - but on this evidence Demons of the Badlands is a healthy slice of old and new.

Eurogamer: Demons of the Badlands Review - 7

While it's true that Demons of the Badlands doesn't offer a great deal that wasn't already offered up in spades by Red Faction Guerrilla, as a standalone episode it actually delivers on the game's potential better than the parent game ever did. By refining the elements which made it fun, granting you all the toys and stripping away almost all of the laborious tasks, Volition has served up something more in line with what we expected in the first place. If your appetite for destruction remains unsated, it's well worth diving in - just don't expect anything too revolutionary.

I'm loving the RF single player so far. It's a great game to just bash away at for a half hour or so to let off some steam, really fun title.

Multi player with friends is good fun too.
