And a lower resolution wouldn't exactly stop the PS3 version from getting that nod either.
correct.... see cod4 - the resolution is unnoticeable. if i had a ps3, and if i didn't alreay have live, maybe i'd get that one. The bottom line is it doesn't matter.

        360 - 720P (1280 x 720) AAx2
        PS3 - 630P (1120 x 630)

This certainly explains the softer look of the PS3 version.
Interesting. That's an odd resolution for the PS3.

Is AAX2, Anti-Aliasing? Aren't people saying the PS3 version does a better job of that?

Here's the most important question to TJ:

Did you sacrifice following the Bills draft for this? If so, then this game is the greatest of all time

Seriously, I can't wait to get my hands on this game sometime tomorrow.

Re: Grand Theft Auto 4 Impressions Thread

            Sorry guys...got busy at work.

Okay...PS3 online. Can you set up rooms? Yes, you can create a match and make it a private room so randoms don't jump in, but I didn't see a friends list or anything anywhere. I could've very well missed it though, so don't count on it NOT being in there. I just didn't see it but I didn't really look for it either.

I just jumped into a Quick Match of the free roaming mode, whatever that's called. It didn't take long at all to get into a game...and it acted like the COD series where I jumped into an already existing game.

Voice chat was fine although I still have yet to figure out how to get my bluetooth headset to work with the PS3, so I was listening through my speakers, not actually talking.

The target system was turned off in the game I was in, but I read it's an option that can be changed by the host.

            Anything else?

It's not interactive at all. To summarize, the characters simulate the all of the acts fully clothed, including both kinds of "jobs." Here's an example of the dialog when the prostitute is straddling Niko . . . "Grab my ******* while you **** me!"

The dialog in the Saint's Row escort missions was suggestive too, but more humor was introduced.

Haha, no! I didn't, and EG can attest to that. I was chatting with him on AIM and waited until the Bills' 2nd round pick before I left to buy a DS3 controller and came back home to play some more.

I will say my wife's addiction to Mario Kart Wii interrupted what would have been several hours of GTA time though. I tried to get her to let me hook the Wii up on the TV in the bedroom but she shot me a "if you make me play this on the small TV, no sex for you for the next 3 weeks" kinda look.

Yeah, anti-aliasing. PS3 has at least AAx2, but the lower resolution given it a slightly softer look would actually help smooth edges even more.

I bet some folks are going to look for some kind of easter egg or something where the clothes are off.

I'm willing to bet such a thing is in there.

Re: Let's talk about... Grand Theft Auto 4

I'm venturing a guess here(and i'm trying not to become overly passionate about the ps3 either as i have a bias for it) BUT.

Rockstar is known for doing compression tricks to get their games running the best they can with the itme they have. In that 6 months maybe they decided to flip the ps3's reso so that it'd start to look as good as the 360 and in the end did something that if they maybe tried on the 360 the 360 would have befitted as well after seeing how the ps3 handled the new reso.

                        Tjhat being said.

ALL the videos I've seen make the PS3 version looks better in the eyes of a videophile such as myself. Whatever's it's doing downscaling upscaling running lower higher whatever it LOOKS better. the vibrant stuff you see and hear mentioned CAN be done to the ps3 version so you will have the crispness of the ps3 version along with the contrast and better colors instantly thanks to tweaking the in game settings.

BUT again ONLINE seems to go completely to 360 even I can "SEE" that LOL

Well...see...I'm easy to please, so I'm probably not the best person to answer this question. I like just about every game I play. That's why Steve doesn't have me reviewing games for the site. Every game would get a 10.

funny that you mention this? i was playing mario kart and in 16;9 at 480p the graphics look blurry BUT smooth. All i did was adjust the sharpness on my hd and then VIOLA! it became as crisp as a gamecube version of double dash, but because of the reg/natural blur the game gave out it was less jaggy/less aliased anyway. although i had to go to 4;3 to REALLY achieve this it made it look crisper.

I was just wondering if cops were a lot more serious when it comes to going after pedestrian AI this time around. Normally they're always chasing them like it's a one-star thing, and they only will when they're not chasing you.
