Iunno I think the OS cartel can get more than a weeks worth of free roam (any game type for that matter) out of this game.

Re: Let's talk about... Grand Theft Auto 4
I like GTA, but I am trying to figure out exactly what is going on with online mode.
If it is just sandboxing, I don't know...watching guys pile up tanks and shoot them is not really doing it for me..lol.
Now if we can make up rival gangs and go to war and own pieces of the city..hang out there whenever we are online and guard/invade turf, then that is badass and I would like to do that.
Nah, there's much more to the multiplayer in GTA4. There are many other modes that are structered with specific goals. The host of course appears to have alot of control on how each mode plays out. Free Roam is just one mode and that's where you can pretty much do whatever you want to do. Although, it sounds like the other modes are free enough where you can go off on a tangent.
From what I read in the OXM article, the other game modes sound awesome!!!XBL Gamertag: hoos4974

GTA IV: Pushing the Limits
Discover how Rockstar is upping the ante with its latest open-world action game.
Grand Theft Auto IV is less than a month away. Arriving on PS3 and 360 April 29, Rockstar's latest has the IGN office abuzz with excitement. While we know many of you share our heightened anticipation, we also realize many of you still have your doubts. It's going to be a few more weeks before we know if GTA IV can deliver on its promise.
Why is this the first true sequel to GTA III? How do you make a multiplayer component that still feels as free and open as the single-player of GTA? And what's Rockstar's take on downloadable content? We spoke with VP of Creative, Dan Houser and Rockstar North Art Director Aaron Garbut to get the answers.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Let's talk about... Grand Theft Auto 4
I'm always going to be skeptical. Especially on here, where people convince themselves they love a game every day 100x posts a day. I know GTA is one of the best releases for the 360, at least that is what I expect it to be. But if you are an online player, its more about getting those 2-3 games a year that everyone continues to log on to play instead of getting it and moving on to the next one. I am not a hardcore gamer, I have too many other things going on, but I still truly appreciate a great game that is a classic and keeps people's attention for longer then 3 weeks.
I think this game could be a classic because the 360 doesnt have many..we all thought Assasin's Creed would be good, and it was not (1 example). So I am just curious what is so great about the online play in GTA..I just read the 10 page article and they really didn't say too much about it. IF you can get in gang shootouts like Team Vs team stuff, that would be very cool. Just having 1 guy racing a car while the rest look for AI cops does not really sound like a huge deal to me..lol. In Halo we raced cars for a week, then everyone went to the meat of the game - deathmatch and it's variants.
GTA is a must buy for gamers because it is GTA. But how many times have we gotten way too hyped over a game before on here? About every time..lol.
Hell, I am still waiting for a football game that is as good as 2k1. In fact, the Dreamcast is still the last great system to ever come out, in my opinion. I think consumers need to be WAY more picky and skeptical, even about franchise games such as GTA. That is the only way we will see true innovation instead of the same engines over and over with little additions like "QB Vision" or "new maps!!".Comment

Re: Let's talk about... Grand Theft Auto 4
Not a whole lot has been said about mutliplayer. There are some quotes in this thread that talks about one of the 16 multiplayer modes... Just from the discriptions of a few I don't see how this game would not be a blast online.Comment

I'll be perfectly happy just driving/walking around with another person or two, just exploring the city.Comment

Re: Let's talk about... Grand Theft Auto 4
IGN: Oh yeah. Blind fire with an RPG may be the greatest thing ever.
Houser: When they got the art right with the RPG, it was like, "Okay, that's pretty out there." But yeah, that was earlier and then after that we went on to improving the hand-to-hand combat, the fighting. And again it was, trying to still keep the game very playable for the average [gamer]... GTA's got a broad range of people that play it and you want it to still appeal to the hardcore and yet also appeal to someone who's not a hardcore gamer by any means. I think that's the sweet spot we've always tried to hit and I think we still hit it, but it's always a danger if you focus too much on targeting as being too technical. People can't play it anymore.#RespectTheCultureComment
