All of the hype about this game has got me intrigued. I've never played a GTA game before. I'm mainly a FPS/sports game guy, so I'm not sure if I would enjoy it. Since there's not going to be a demo, does anyone recommend picking up one of the older GTA titles to see if I'd enjoy this style of game? Which game would you recommend?

GTA: San Andreas and GTA: III are the ones I'd pick up. I'd skip VC.


Honestly, I think if you were to pick one up as your first, I'd go with III, just to see what the series is about - and how it built itself on the "next-gen" console. The game is still awesome to play, even though it's pretty old and lacks a lot of features the new ones have.

And it has the best radio station out of the three newer ones - Chatterbox FM with Lazlo and that crazy Latin Lover, Fernando (who, if I recall properly, it's Latin at all).

I would seriously jump in my favorite car and just drive around the city listening to that station. I need to get this game again, I'm starting to miss it.

It's still a classic, and I think it'll make you appreciate the new one coming out even more.

San Andreas has some fun cities, characters, vehicles, and gameplay. The best part - you can steal military fighter jets and fly around blowing up cars, and you can even parachute out.

VC, eh, I guess if you like 80's stuff it's ok. It's the only one out of the three "next-gen" games I didn't beat. It just got boring - the story wasn't all that fun, and the radio stations and cars sucked.

Vice City. Easily.

I always liked San Andreas the best. I guess I liked the 90s gang war theme over the 80s theme, and the world, especially with the addition of the rural areas, was a lot more immersive and more enjoyable to explore IMO.

I liked vice city. Ray Liotta was their best voice actor so far imo. I loved how alot of it reminded me of scarface before tony makes it big.
Because San Andreas is newer it plays better, but the story isn't as good - and cj isn't as likeable or as much of a full character as Ray

GTA:SA is certainly the biggest but Vice City used it's theme the best IMO.

If you know the music from then, VC had the best licensed soundtrack. I can easily see a younger kid not enjoying it though.

I have to go with Vice City.

That was the first game I ever played that sucked me in, it was so immersive. I mean they really captured the 80's perfectly. Plus they introduced motorcycles, and it was by far the best music selection of all three games. You just felt like you were in this culture of excess where everyone was a caricatiure of themselves.

San Andreas would have to come in second. It was a great game and all but I just wasnt feelin the 90's vibe, and the music selection was just ok. The vehicles, characters, weapons, and sheer amount of things you could do made it one of the best games ever, unfortunately it didnt suck me like Vice City did.

My dad and I had the Miami Vice soundtrack on vinyl, so I definitely know the music.

Yeah I liked San Andreas alot more than Vice City. Vice City just felt like GTA III with more personality, San Andreas added alot of things to do and the soundtrack was crazy.
