Re: **The Official Grand Theft Auto 4 Thread**
Got the 360 version and played it for 4 hours tonight (have done 8 missions withouht failing one so far) and I am blown away by how good this game is...and that is before even really getting into the meat of it. Just some general comments:
-the graphics are NICE and better than I was expecting after reading so many people in various forums harp on how crappy they were. Aliasing isn't too bad (mainly just stuff in the distance or fine line stuff like chrome trim on the cars) and pop-in is not as bad as I feared as it is usually for minor stuff. I am playing this on the JVC RS2 front projector on an 8 foot wide screen so (not to sound like a dick) but if the graphics were really crap like some have said then it'd be a glaring issue on my system compared to those running it on 40" and less TVs.
I was playing with the game display settings at default and felt it looked great with a lot of depth to the image. I then adjusted them a bit to see what effect it has and the labels are somewhat backwards- the contrast setting is more like a regular brightness setting (aka black) while the brightness is more like a regular contrast setting. I ended up dropping the saturation down 1 tick (although it was fine at default) and upping the brightness up 1. Doing this caused the image to have a bit more 3d look/depth to it but default settings were fine for me but hey, that's the luxury of buying a top end projector with a 30k:1 contrast ratio.
-I thought the car handling would be crap but it isn't and I like how the driving is in this game. The crap cars have crap handling and the good cars handle well...it is just like how it is in real life. I know many complain you can't brake in a turn but you know what? You cant do that in real life either. The car physics in this game are far more realistic than in past GTA games and I for one and fine with that. IMO the problem with those who complain is they are simply too used to before rather than the actual system being flawed.
-I do not find the overall controls to be unresponsive at all. Maybe there is some difference between the ps3 and 360 version here. I don't know.
-I was concerned that load times may be a bit annoying but they aren't. The initial load is 40 seconds and mission loads are hmm, maybe 5-10.
-I love the new cover system when in firefights.
-driving drunk is freaking awesome and I plan to do it quite often in this game. It looked so amazing when I was doing it after a mission..
-no freezes/DREs yet.
-I love the euphoria system and every game from now on should sue this system. i knew it'd be a great system after seeing those tech demos when star wars: the force unleashed was announced but damn, it is amazing to see it in a real game. Some of the stuff I have seen so far (ie guys hanging onto the car door only to get taken out) has received a "daaaaaaaaaaamn" type response from me or me laughing quite a lot.
-Niko is awesome and so far is my fav GTA main character.
-this game is so amazing and the scary thing is I am barely into it...I can't wait to unlock the whole map and really get into all the weapons and so forth. Rockstar has yet again created an amazing game that so far is on pace to be the best game I have ever played. The attention to detail is mind boggling.
-those who say it doesn't deserve a 10 simply because it isn't perfect...umm, a 10 doesn't mean it has to be perfect. The Pats went 16-0 (aka a 100% reg season) and they weren't close to perfect. Hell, every sports team that has ever gone undefeated for a reg season or in total has not been perfect so it is silly to assume that a 100% score for gta4 must equate to it being perfect. It's cool if people feel the gameplay isn't deserving of a 10 or they simply do not care for this type of game but the "it's not perfect so shouldn't be rated perfect" stuff is silly to me.
-oh and the biggest complaint I have so far is that the voice volume at times seems to be recorded too low in relation to the music and sound effects. I have had to lower the SFX and music volume in the game to help compensate for this and occasionally get out of the car when roman calls me. I am running a 7.1 speaker setup and each speaker is level matched so it isn't my setup. Other than that minor issue the audio is superb."on hoping there is a PSN flash sale before Valentine's Day"
Man there are no flashers... now what are we going to do for vd
yea but will they take psn cards

Re: **The Official Grand Theft Auto 4 Thread**
dude, considering the amount of things this game is doing at one time and is streaming everything at once while you play, i think you gotta chill with the graphics, i think you have to give rockstar a lot of credit on how great the graphics look. if you can tell me a game that looks better considering on how much is going on and how big the game is, then cheers. but for the meantime id enjoy it and just appreciate it whether its on ps3 or 360.
I guess I was shocked at first because what I was seeing on my TV was nowhere close to pre-release videos and pics. It didn't take me long at all to adjust and get myself all wrapped up in the game.
It's truly a masterpiece !!!XBL Gamertag: hoos4974

Re: **The Official Grand Theft Auto 4 Thread**
Can anyone answer these questions for me..
If I can ever find a hooker (have yet to find one) when you kill them do you get your money back like in the past?
I can't find any weapons except a baseball bat, do they come in later missions?
How do you get into cars without jacking them? Anytime I get into a car they always throw the driver out.
Can you shoot someone in the back of the head while seated in the car with them?
ThanksComment

Yeah you get your money back
SpoilerI'm not that far into the game yet but I got a pistol from Jacob when I did a mission for him and I got a shotgun from some random guy that I killed on the street lol
I don't know about the other questions though.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: **The Official Grand Theft Auto 4 Thread**
Theres a "cheat" where you enter in a computer which is..."www.whattheydonotwantyoutoknow.com". This gives you a map where you could find the pigeons, weapons, armor, and entertainment places...not really a cheat but for those who dont want to use it you could find the maps here...

Re: **The Official Grand Theft Auto 4 Thread**
A lot of people are complaining about the graphics, maybe not here but some other places. They forget though this an open world game and the game only has one load to load all the details up. Rest of the way the CPU and GPU have to calculate where you are going. All those textures have to be saved somewhere, so as big as the city is and all the stuff that happens, the graphics are a 10!Comment

Re: **The Official Grand Theft Auto 4 Thread**
I tried playing the way TJ is, which is "sim". Basically being a law abiding citizen.
It makes the game so much more fun. Watching other people getting into car accidents, then turning into fist fights etc.
Sometimes after a good fight, I get in the middle and kill both of them. You know, show'em who's boss.Comment
